Lexington Christian fined over financial aid to athletes

I am just thinking out loud and not saying this has any merit. But what I am hearing is banning LCA in totality, would it not be reasonable (and I have no problem with this as an LCA supporter) to have the sport that benefitted be the one to forfeit games or be banned? Just talking out loud, as I said before, I am in no way of defending anything, I am upset by this. For one I think the boys basketball team will be the ones to feel the anger of most of this, and I would venture to say, have not benefited any. My heart goes out to my son who is going to have to hear things slurs that will be slung at ball games. My feeling is that for some, no punishment will ever be enough, but that is human nature I suppose, and if the roles were reversed there is no way of my knowing how much would be enough for even myself. A term comes to mind, guilt by association, we have all been there, I guess another life lesson for young men and women.

I agree, everyone from LCA, guilty or not guilty will feel the fury from this. I don't know who or what sport(s) are involved, but you are right given the fact that basketball season is ongoing, basketball will see and hear a lot about this at games.

And I don't blame you, if you and your son are not involved, for being upset, because you, your son, and your family and friends are going to have to endure the criticism. If I was you I would be livid. I assume you are trying to provide the best life that you can for your son and family, and that effort has been tarnished by the misdoing of others. All I can advise you to do, is to make sure the administration knows how they have effected you, your son, and your family; and make sure this does not happen again.

Its a shame I really respected their program.

As did I, sad situation.

Thank you, as that is how are family is feeling, ashamed and hurt. It was brutal enough visiting certain schools. Ironically, schools outside of Lexington, have been passionate but done in a spirit of competition, while on the other hand, some of the other schools in this area can have the cruelest things said. I guess maybe they were toughening us up for things to come, I say that with tounge in cheek.

Regarding LCA I think everyone needs to clarify what teams we are talking about. The article is speaking of minority students given tuition aid from a church. Being a past LCA parent I never saw or heard of tuition assistance in the program our son played in( baseball) yet school won 05 State Championship. This team was comprised from students who had been in the LCA system for years and I'm quite sure paid many tuition dollars. I can't speak for any other program other than Baseball but would challenge anyone to name a player on that 05 team that recieved any money or was recruited. LCA has benifitted from being located in an area with very good youth sports programs. To speak of taking Titles or diminishing accomplishments of teams one should know a little of what they speak. ALL PUBLIC schools in LOUISVILLE can recruit many do. Look at Scott County basketball (Rick Jones, Corbin HS, Scott Hundley, Dunbar HS,Transfer this yr from Henry Clay). LCA has turned down many athletes in the past due to Grades, behavior issues or Beliefs. As an athletic parent I can assure you that you are not catered to ,quite opposite if you knew the whole situation. Baseball program has lost many players to local schools over the years and lost catcher from last years team to Dunbar this year. from what I have heard LCA supported the transfer to Dunbar this year because they felt it would benefit the student although this leaves this years team with no catcher.Public schools and Private Schools that WIN both will fight accusations of cheating that just goes with the territory.

Do you have some information about Scott County or Dunbar that you would like to substantiate? It seems to me that LCA and Lex cath are the only schools in recent memory to be charged and fined.

Not accusing Dunbar of anything just stating facts of players that have transferred into Scott Co . Maybe I should clarify I was speaking of Scott County basketball with previous MR Basketball players in Rick Jones and Scott Hundley both transferring into Scott County to help win State Championships. Dunbar lost Hundley to Scott County. Dunbar getting LCA player this year he might not be eligible to play but LCA lost player and then tried to help player gain eligiblity to play at Dunbar because they thought player would benefit academically there.Definately not accusing Dunbar of anything, Scott Countyhas had more high quality transfers than any basketball program in the bluegrass but you never hear recruiting because of it being public.

Maybe someone can help me with this. John Hardin has only been in existence since 2001. In their first year they won 3 football games. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 they won 6. In 2005 they were 11-2 with a win over Male in the playoffs and a 1 point loss the St. X (Victor Anderson's senior year). In 2006 the won 7. Finally, last year they were 12-0 before losing to Bowling Green in the state semis. Now I'm not accusing anyone of anything but I sure would like to know how John Hardin built their program that quickly.

Im not sure but has John Hardin been a big school since it started? If so maybe there success is from having alot of kids to pick from...Maybe John Hardin getting better is why Ft Knox hasn't been very good for awhile...

I must admit, I am all for a public/private split, but i am not naive enough (I hope no one else is that naive) to think "recruiting" doesn't go on at public schools as well. Not ALL privates & not ALL publics, but it does go on. It doesn't have to be a coach or administrator, it's usually a parent or friend of a student that goes to another school doing the dirty work without coaches even being aware of what's happening.

By the way, when a school or coach gets fined, where does that money go? Does it go to a general fund, charity, or just someone's pocket in bonuses? Just wondering where it goes.

LCA also lost a player to Tates Creek a couple years ago and helped to ensure that he gained elgibility there. This was also due to academics.

Previous accusations about the ICE AAU team being used as a recruiting tool for LCA are foolish. The ICE 15U team has varsity and JV players for 4 other local high schools. At the time of the decision by the Scott Co. player, 2 of the 9 players were from LCA. 6 of the 9 were at public schools and one Sayre player. Please be well informed before falsely accusing.

Quality coaching, positive environment and the love of God go a lot farther than you all give them credit sometimes.

So in summary, you're saying that it's okay to cheat because you think others may be doing it? These other schools have not been charged with anything. You're doing nothing more than rationalizing the LCA situation.....Sad

I remember the Herald Leader saying that 16 of the 18 students in question were athletes, but did it specifically say which sport? Just curious as to why this thread is under the football forum?

They had siblings with a lot of success, one has graduated and the other is still there. I don't know of any other siblings.

Maybe someone can help me with this. LCA started football in 2000 and for the first three years, they were horrible. Then comes in Rains and within three years, they’re beating Beechwood. Having seen LCA’s Middle school football program over the past few years, it’s hard for me to believe those teams in which I saw would be good enough so early to play with the big boys in the state. ;) Now, they’re one of the best programs in Class A. All of this has happen in a matter of five years. Their middle school teams were good but they weren’t great … so that leads to the question … how many of those kids that are on the squad now, played Middle School football at LCA? In college, a coach normally build his football program with junior college players and once those players got settled in, then he would build around them. What did LCA do to build their program so quickly? (I’m not buying the weight room thing :irked:) - A lot of us would like to know what they did to get their program to were it is today, so maybe some of those programs can do the same things LCA did and just maybe one day, they to can compete against the elite each year. This is just a thought and I’m not accusing anyone of anything! :thumb:

The major skill position players went to middle school at LCA, as did many of the other players on the football team. Most of these allegations deal with players that attended LCA in the past several years - just for a little behind the scenes info.
