Lexington Christian fined over financial aid to athletes

Featured Replies

Smoothy---Please let me understand. A parent and coach came up with this idea (2 people), raised the $$ needed, and did it and no one else was aware or complicit.......why don't you just insult everyone's intelligence!

I don't believe that is what he is saying at all.

Are the kids who were getting the financial aid now going to have to transfer because they can't afford the tuition??? Will they be released and eligible to play?

LCA also lost a player to Tates Creek a couple years ago and helped to ensure that he gained elgibility there. This was also due to academics.

Previous accusations about the ICE AAU team being used as a recruiting tool for LCA are foolish. The ICE 15U team has varsity and JV players for 4 other local high schools. At the time of the decision by the Scott Co. player, 2 of the 9 players were from LCA. 6 of the 9 were at public schools and one Sayre player. Please be well informed before falsely accusing.

Quality coaching, positive environment and the love of God go a lot farther than you all give them credit sometimes.

Good point, I was obviously wrong about that situation, but you dont know until your told!

What I want to know is how many people that have ties to LCA work for KHSAA ?

Gee, this seems like a wise statement a couple people should at least take into consideration before spouting off here.

In the presence of the on going arguments about advantages and disadvantages of public versus private around the state, and various proposals and discussion about separate playoffs for private schools or privates being forced to move up one class from what there enrollment dictates; is anyone else surprised that the KHSAA did not make a statement in dealing with LCA?

Given the above debates, I figured the KHSAA would make an example of the next school found to have recruited athletes, public or private, just to send a message that separation or a multiplier was not needed. I guess I was wrong.

If the KHSAA would make examples of schools that are caught recruiting, I don't think most people would be so upset. People would have a sense of security if they saw violators punished severely for impropriety.

Thank you.........

I believe it said in the paper that the scholarships were not offered to the students for the current year but a previous year, I thought I read that in the Herald Leader?

Everyone seems to know all the facts in this case, though I'm not sure if they really do.................... and seem awfully anxious to throw the entire LCA sports program to the curb.

The LCA people that we have had dealings with all seem to be class people............and I'm guessing that almost all of them still are.

Thank you.........

Your welcome, I always try to be of service.

This is why I normally don't get into recruiting discussions, I start to sound like I am making sense.:D

But, seriously, I don't get involved in recruiting discussions because I don't see it as, "Public versus Private", I see it as "Right versus Wrong".

But, the discussion always get to a, "Public versus Private", debate.

Shucks - I was hoping our prodigal son would be forced to come back home...:walk:

The word I got is that a disgruntled parent vowed to "get back at" LCA for something that didn't go the way the parent thought it should for their kid. The details of that story are unimportant. The point is, they've been slinging mud, just to see what would stick. This is it... a few area churches helping to pay the tuition for some kids they felt needed to be in a better situation.

There was no direct indication or implication of recruiting, otherwise the penalties would have been stiffer.

This was not a grand secret scheme cooked up by the administration of LCA to pull one over on everyone else. I was a case of genuine charity with the unfortunate and undeniable appearance of possible impropriety.

To their credit, LCA stepped up, and took their medicine. :thumb:

I agree, and that is why I am choosing my statements carefully. I have always gotten along with the fans from LCA, and want to continue to get along with them. But, this is not the LCA fans and players versus the other schools fans and players. This is about a school that did something wrong, and we are just discussion what the school did and what penalty they received.

I have no ill feeling toward the LCA fans or players, but I am upset with the school administration, or who ever was involved in breaking the rules.
