No he would not have to teach, it is apparently not a requirement to be a teacher in order to be a head coach.

 

Dunno about the stipend.

I may be wrong but I don't believe a head coach has to teach a Class...

Not sure how he would get paid, but you would assume that he would get more than your average teacher/HC...

IMO he won't be the next coach at BC... Just too much to lose IMO, lets say he doesn't do well his first year (and maybe his only year), I think that would really hurt his chances at getting a good college job...

No doubt. That’s why if I was him I would just hang out for a year or be an assistant. He has nothing to gain by coaching at BC, but could very well damage his image beyond repair if he doesn't win there... Just too much to lose IMO...

If he's in this for the long haul (I don't think he is) then this is a great situation for BC and for him. No doubt he is a good coach and BC will win games simply because he will out coach his opponents, but if he has aspirations to become a HC for a major college I think this would be a bad move that has too much risk and not enough reward....

So I assume his firing from Baylor requires Baylor to pay him a million this year unless he coaches another college team. Thus, his comp this year if he coaches at Boyle is a million plus his teaching and coaching compensation. Folks, if that's correct, he's coming to Boyle at least for a year. How long he stays after that is anyone's guess at this time and if I was doing the Boyle County hiring, such would cause me real concern. I know he has a farm in Perryville and loves the area, but after the year goes by, it may be hard to stay at Boyle if some college comes a courting offering decent money, even if its as an asst coach. Then again, he may be so financially secure that he'd never leave Boyle. I'd just be afraid that given the turmoil, if I can use that word, with Pardue, if I was making the decision on whom to hire, I'd have a lot of trepidation about hiring Morris. I fully realize that any coach hired could after a year or two leave, but if a strong high school coach was applying that I thought had ties to the community, I'd probably pass on Morris.

 

Frankly, while having a college coach will create some positive buzz again around Boyle's football program, I'm not sure that whatever "success" Morris had on the college level even equates to high school football. Big, big difference in what it takes to be successful on both levels. Then again, I'm sure that the Boyle folks have talked extensively with Coach Smith on his thoughts and he's given the green light to hiring Morris. I'd just hate to see Morris leave after a year or two and have that create more tormoil in the Boyle program. Then again again, if he can come in and win a state championship or two in those couple of years, perhaps it wouldn't matter if he then left.

 

Very, very interesting. Whatever happens I just hope it works out good in the long run for the kids and supporters of Boyle County football.

I don't believe he would be in it for the long haul either...I think he would keep doing it as long as he is enjoying it...I think if he gets board I could see him being asst in the NFL.IMO I just don't see him wanting to take a chance on ending up in another Baylor situation...:thumb:

Any Danville fans care to disclose their thoughts on how a Morris hiring could affect, negatively or positively, Danville's program? I could see some young athletes thinking that Morris' college connections could help them get a college scholarship and thus be inclined to enroll at Boyle in lieu of Danville. Sam is an absolutely fantastic coach, one of the best if not the best high school coach in Ky. But............ kids being kids and parents being parents, I could see the thought entering some minds.
