Which is what happens when you chase points...

I'd like to see that old thread discussing that.

How many good games has Big Ben had in the playoffs in his career? It seems like anytime I have seen him in the playoffs, he plays horrible. Yet his team finds ways to win even though he is doing bad, and it almost happened yesterday. I know even the super bowl they won, he did not look good at all in it.

I'm a big-picture kind of guy, so I'm actually quite at peace with what went down last night. Pretty much shrugged it off 15 minutes afterward, and I'm sure that the Louisville win earlier in the day helped lessen the pain.

What I saw this year:

Just like the last two times, the organization made a good choice on a head coach. His first season was wildly exceptional, given how most prognosticators picked Pittsburgh to finish behind the Ratbirds and Bengals in the division. It also looks nice in light of Steve Kragthorpe's first year at UofL.

Needs to address, all of which were magnified in this game:

Kick coverage (Jones' return is just one of many instances where returners punished the Steelers -- Cribbs first made his name against us.)

Offensive line (Roethlisberger got hammered in this game, just like all season. Depth needs to be shored up through the draft and Faneca is a must re-sign.)

Draft for depth at LB and DL (This would also help fix the kick coverage problem.)

I'm going to operate on the assumption that Parker will not be back on time. I am willing to give Najeh a shot as the full-time option for a season, if this is necessary. Wouldn't hurt to pick up a future starter in the 6th or 7th round, though.

Hats off to Garrard for a fantastic game. It was difficult to get beat by what is essentially Kordell Stewart v3.0.

I think the team can take some leftover anger from this and carry it over into next year. This team is one good draft away from getting back to the SB.

I so agree with you on this, my order might be a little different.

#1. Sign Faneca please, he still has 4 or 5 really good years left.

#2. First day of Draft, get at least 1 maybe 2 OL.

#3. We need a new Center, either through the draft or FA. Rumors have also went around about moving Simmons to Center and replacing him with Kemoeatu or Colon(who I think would be a lot better at guard).

#4. Draft for depth at LB and DL.

#5. Another WR in the draft, somewhere in rounds 2-4. (One that has outstanding return skills would be nice.)

Last I do too think we are not far away from being a SB contender. (again! :p)

Did you not see the the Super Bowl run he had against Cincy, Indy and Denver?

Chase points and lose. Nice work Omar...

I do like the Omar or Mr. Epps, comments...

I would agree with this if they were in the NFC. I don't see 6-8 rookies being making them better than New England or Indy.

Sure they can, if you operate under the assumption that NE and Indy will backslide next year. Both teams are aging at key spots and both are set up for a tumble within the next couple years.

Im glad thats what makes you bengals fans happy... PATHETIC... I was so glad to see my boys never give up in this game, they could have very easily said ok lets try again next year (Bengals motto for life) but they didnt and I am so proud of them but furthermore congrats to the Jags! Very tough to beat a team on the road twice in one year ecspecially us, I would love to see you guys win it all now. Overall I cant be dissapointed my team won the AFC NORTH and got beat by one of the hottest teams in football...

You dont play for Pittsburgh. :thumb:

Karma finally caught up with Pittsburgh

It catches up with everyone, they only crown one winner each year. Only 12 teams make the playoffs. Can't lose your leading NFL rusher 2 games before the playoffs and expect to go a long ways. They will regroup next season and the next and the next. Been in the playoffs 8 or 9 times out of the last 10 years and one SUPER BOWL WIN!

Computer's down at home, couldn't wait to come back and see what the Cincy fans had to say hating on the Steelers. Same old thing. Ben's terrible, blah, blah. He stunk in the first half. No running game. Jags are physical, but the Steelers gave this one away. Oh, well. I also thought that Arians had some terrible calls on the 2pt. conversions. And what's worse is the fact that they only needed 4 yds to keep a drive alive and virtually eat the clock to a 1pt. victory. Arians calls a qb sweep with a 3rd string LT. I've seen every play of every game this season, they haven't run that one until then. Why not take a shot at a safe crossing route, WR screen, or something through the air?

The Steelers IMO have to address these positions via trade or draft this spring.

#1 Center-Mahan is terrible. The QB pressures came up the middle, all season. He's not physical enough. Bet that they wish they hadn't let Okobi go the Cards.

#2 They need another DL. The loss of Aaron Smith was the largest void injury-wise

#3 Depth at WR. Hines is a posession guy on his last lap.

#4 Guard. I hope that they resign Faneca, but that's typically not their MO and they will struggle with Mahan at C and a rookie or one of the crew they already have trying to fill Alan's shoes.

#5 Invest no money in the field. If it's this big of a hindrance to folks and such a hot topic, I hope they do nothing so Fred Taylor and others can keep their panties in a wad.

 One post out of 57 was a Cinci fan talking about Ben.

Big Ben comes up small he turns it over 4 times and Jacksonville wraps this one up. Do the Jags get to start charging the Steelers rent on Heinz Field? Speaking of Heinz Field, the Steelers organization should be ashamed of the condition of the playing surface. There's no reason for a NFL field to be that bad.

I agree the first one was bad, but you have to go for two the second time.

I'm almost always against chasing points, but in the Steelers case, I don't think it was as obvious that it was a bad or wrong decision. They scored with about 10 minutes to play in the game to make it 28-23...at that point in the game, I think going for 2 to get within a FG is acceptable. The possessions are limited at that point...in hindsight, it's easy to say it was the wrong decision. However, I was OK with Tomlin's decision. It's not as egregious as chasing points in the second or third quarters. When you're down to the last 10 minutes of the game, you have to start thinking about it.

Suppose Tomlin kicks the XP and the Steelers end up in FG range at the end and fail to score. Then he'd be ripped for not going for two.

Again, let me clarify, that I do not advocate chasing points, but when you're close to the mid-point of the 4th quarter, it's OK with me.

There's 2 smart guy!:lol::lol::lol:

I'm not a Bengal fan, as a matter of fact I can't stand them.
