I think that its a combination of peoples fault....

 

Tubby just couldnt recruit and BCG isnt the in game coach that people thought he was....

 

Tubby just couldn't recruit is a bit misleading. As I said on here before, he really only had two bad classes while here at UK. The problem is that those two bad classes came within 3 years of each other, and that is what led to us not being that good the last two seasons. However us not being that good, still was good enough to make the tournament and get to the final 32 teams. We wont even make the NIT tournament this year...

 

I say its probably going to be 2 more years, before we even get to the point where we are losing in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament again...

I know many people are bashing the Job Billy G. has done so far at UK. But i think that he is doing all he can do. Just think without Billy G's recruiting we would not have Patrick Patterson. What I truly believe though is that Tubby Smith has ruined UK basketball team for at least this year.

Billy G. did not get Patterson first of all. Tubby did most of the recruiting on him. All BCG did was get the finishing touches and I will CREDIT him for that. Tubby laid the ground work for Patterson to be at UK, just like he did w/Darius Miller. I think the reason PP waited as long as he did to sign was to see what was going to happen at UK with their new coach. It is QUITE obvious that Patterson according to his own quotes wanted to stay close to home.

 

Tubby RUINED nothing and anyone who believes that knows very little about basketball in general!Tubby is a wonderful coach, X's and O's wise, player relations, etc. and NO one can argue that! He missed out on some recruits, but even he admitted that and seems to have corrected the problem at his new school!

Love the post futurecoach, finally someone who understands college basketball and recruiting. That was as well said as anything on this site.

I mostly hold this position but the loss to San Diego coupled with the loss to GW and the almost loss to Stony Brook are unacceptable with the injured squad that was being filled. One of the 3 in a year, I will let slide. All 3 in the same year and that is unacceptable.

 

Although a win over UL would have tilted that scale back in BCG's favor.

Lets see here...Rondo/NBA Morris/NBA...The reason He did not get Lofton is because Crawford was a higher recruit/which is what the UK fans want...

I love it. I bet you hate when people don't give Tubby credit for his '98 title too.

 

Now, not only does BCG not get credit for landing Patterson, he doesn't get credit for landing Miller either? If you knew anything you'd know that BCG hiring Tracy Webster from Illinois played a big part in Miller's commitment. You think Tubby would have hired Webster? Right.

 

As for Patterson, Tubby was notorious for his close calls in recruiting. Tyler Hansbrough sound familiar? Brandan Wright? Both were surely coming to UK, but neither did. Tubby constantly wiffed on recruits, and to credit him with two guys who never committed to him is pretty funny.

Agreed. The Lofton argument is stupid. Maybe any other year Tubby should ave signed him, but AT THE TIME he would have been stupid to take Lofton over Crawford/Bradley/Rondo/Morris.

Tubby has not been on the UK sideline any this season...Maybe He ruined UK basketball by leaving?:confused:

I think not. I think if Tubby was coaching this year, even with the players they have, they would not have lost this many games, and if they did, they definately wouldn't be embarassed like they are now.

 

I'm not being argumentative or anything but I'm honestly wondering, What makes you think that Tubby would have faired better with these players? His coaching? What part of Tubby's coaching style gives you this opinion?
