January 7, 200818 yr You know what, you're right, we probably wouldn't have. But this is a move that will help us in the long run. Tubby's style of play was more passive, keeping lesser teams in it. BCG is more aggressive and relies more on athleticism and intensity to pressure the ball. Athleticism is something this team doesnt have. Intensity is another. This team has no heart. Now, if you would like to argue about the lack of basketball IQ and athleticism on this team, thats fine. 25 losses in the last 2 years wont help you any, but I guess you could try to spin that some way. The rate this team is going they might have 20+ loses in one season...Wonder when the last time thats happened... I don't think Pitino's first season had as much talent on it... January 7, 200818 yr OldRambler Bud, I am usually agreeing with mostly everything you post on BGP and I respect your posts more than just about antone on the site but I'm going to have to disagree with some of your opinion on this situation. While I don't want blame Tubby for the current stage of UK's program, it's kinda hard for me to blame anyone else. I think Tubby is one of the best coaches in college b-ball today but I don't think he one of the better recruiters. Unfortunately in college you can be the best coach in the world but if you can't recruit top notch talent then you will never succeed at the highest level. Tubby always got the most out of the talent he had but that isn't good enough for a program the likes of UK. While his coaching stats are impressive the fact remains that he never made it back to the Final Four with his team. I give Tubby credit for coaching UK to the title in '98 because he worked wonders in the tourney that year but it was done with Pitino recruited players. I know Tubby fans are sick of hearing that but that's just how I feel. Those players went to UK because of Pitino and the talent level took a drop after he left. As fans we HAVE to be realistic about things, UK is not going to win NCs every year but I think that at a school like UK or UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, ect that you must COMPETE for a NC on a concistent basis and in college that means making it to the Final Four. I know that if Tubby would have made 1 or 2 Final Fours that I would have been very upset when he left but since he didn't, I was very happy and I was ready for change. SOme of the UK faithful are what I call UK critics instead of UK fans because they are unrealistic but I don't think the standards I stated are unrealistic at all. Like I said earlier, Tubby is a super coach but he's not a great recruiter and poor recruiters don't win in college b-ball. I don't think we can blame everything on Tubby but I do hold him partly responsible for this year and probably some of next year. But it's a two-way street, he UK was 12-2 this year I would be giving Tubby some of the credit. When a coach comes into a school and has success his 1st year like a Tubby in '98 or a Bruce Weber at Illinois, the previous coach is mostly credited for that success. It's the same way if the team is losing in the coaches 1st season. Nobody blamed Roy Williams when UNC struggled badly his 1st season, the UNC base blamed Matt Doherty for that season. I feel like it's the same way with Tubby at UK. I don't blame him completely because we've been bombarded with injuries and a new system with an unfamiliar coach but I do put some of the blame on his shoulders. That's just how I feel. I KNOW that BCG is going to do great things at UK as soon as he can recruit his players. He did great things at his previous schools that have probably have the facilities and money that UK has. He's a proven spectaculor recruiter and in college I think that that is the most important quality of a coach. Good recruiting can overcome bad coaching in college b-ball. OK, I'll shut up now!! LOL!!! I have to say that I certanly respect your post on here as well, as you did in this one post you always make good points and post with respect and class. :thumb: I basically just get sick of hearing/reading on how "OTS has ruined U.K. basketball", gimme a break - I beleive if someone would really look at his record while here and think a bout it then they would have to laugh at those allegations also. Yes, Tubby had a couple of bad classes recruiting wise - imo he put too much faith in his assistants(Hansen and Rigot) in recruiting and wasn't enough "hands on". Imo Hansen blew it on the Hansbourough recruiting when he didn't follow up on it - Hansbourough basically said that when he said that he was waiting on U.K. to get back with him and it didn't happen. If I remember correctly Hansen was the one keeping up (or not doing so) on him. Regardless it was OTS's program though and the ultimate responsibility fell on him. I just think that his assitants were kept on staff way too long and hurt him in recruiting by "slacking" in that area. I don't expect to convince anyone of my views and I respect others opinions on here when they put it in the right way, several do and some imo do not. :thumb: As for ther constant blaming of Tubby I just go back to the old saying...."you will never go foward by looking in the rear view mirror". I also beleive that some are still wanting the days of Pitino and expect that kind of team EVERY season. The talent level that RP had here in few years stretch just does ot happen very often anywhere and may never happen again, I sure hope so and I hope the we get another two or three classes like that though...:thumb:

But they completely bought into the system and put everything they had into it. It was non stop effort. Can you honestly say this team is non stop effort? No. It seems like they don't care half the time. They are LAZY. The 1990 team was not lazy.

No. It seems like they don't care half the time. They are LAZY. The 1990 team was not lazy. You hit upon the key. Talent versus effort. The talent is there on this team. Effort is not. Especially intelligence and effort. As the saying goes, Hard work will beat talent when talent doesn't work hard.

January 7, 200818 yr What???? What does this have to do with Joe B Hall? We are in the longest FF drought in school history and during Tubbys 10 years he, we had five 10+ loss seasons. We are 18-14 in the SEC the last 2 years and have continually been embarrassed by the best teams of late.
January 7, 200818 yr Billy G. did not get Patterson first of all. Tubby did most of the recruiting on him. All BCG did was get the finishing touches and I will CREDIT him for that. Tubby laid the ground work for Patterson to be at UK, just like he did w/Darius Miller. I think the reason PP waited as long as he did to sign was to see what was going to happen at UK with their new coach. It is QUITE obvious that Patterson according to his own quotes wanted to stay close to home. Tubby RUINED nothing and anyone who believes that knows very little about basketball in general!Tubby is a wonderful coach, X's and O's wise, player relations, etc. and NO one can argue that! He missed out on some recruits, but even he admitted that and seems to have corrected the problem at his new school! Are you kidding me? Darius had ZERO interest in UK with Tubby here.
