I agree He needs to rebuild,but there is enough talent on this team to be further along than where they are...IMO Billy G needs to add some Common Since to his system...Im sure it would be bought into alot quicker...

I agree that they shouldn't have lost games to GW and San Diego. They only thing I can think is that BCG is stubborn and is forcing his system on the players. He won't change to suit them, they need to play his style of ball.

 

In the long run, I think this will help us out. We will have a much more agressive, attacking team.

3 losses? Seriously? IU and UNC are losses no matter what, and UofL is probably one as well. Beat GW, and you can add at least 1, probably 2 losses in NYC. Then you've got UAB who Tubby has lost to before (twice I believe) and Houston who Tubby only beat by 7 last year at home (with Morris btw, and PP was out this year).

 

Tubby would have 5-7 losses at this point. He would have beaten GW and USD, but past that its hard to say he'd have done any better.

 

There is no reason at all to think that UL would still be a lost as well. I mean Tubby had beat Pitino three straght times, and he beat this same UL team last year. And the whole Morris thing dont mean much because he was in foul trouble for the whole game and didn't do much at all. Our biggest problem this year is our defense sucks, and if Tubby was still coach it wouldn't be this bad on defense. We wouldn't give up over 80 points to a Gardner Webb team, we woudln't let UL score over 58 points in the 2nd half against us at home. A team who also was not doing good. Also UAB only beat us once and that was the year we were a #1 seed. Then we beat then two years ago in the first round when everyone was picking UAB to win. Also we beat Nova in the first round last year as well, another team everybody was picking us to lose to. And well that team last year that did that, is pretty much the same as this year team. Yet for some reason this team is absolutely horrible...

There is more on the ball pressure in BCGs system. That is the biggest difference. Instead of allowing passes to the wings trying to deny passes into the post (basis of ball line D), there is constant on the ball pressure. His teams are much more aggressive on defense.

You know what, you're right, we probably wouldn't have. But this is a move that will help us in the long run. Tubby's style of play was more passive, keeping lesser teams in it. BCG is more aggressive and relies more on athleticism and intensity to pressure the ball. Athleticism is something this team doesnt have. Intensity is another. This team has no heart.

 

Now, if you would like to argue about the lack of basketball IQ and athleticism on this team, thats fine. 25 losses in the last 2 years wont help you any, but I guess you could try to spin that some way.

While Tubby who has FAR LESS TALENT at Minnesota than what he left us here, has been blowing out the cupcake teams that we have been losing to this year. Wow so I guess giving up 80 points to bad teams is being more aggresive. I mean I watched some of Billy G's Texas A&M games last year and I saw the same problems as this years UK team. They always aloud people to easily drive to the basket on them, and ALWAYS aloud wide open 3 pointers. So I really am starting to get worried about this defense philosphy Billy G uses, because I saw the same problems on his team last year that he had coached for a few years that I have seen on this team...

Tubbys team that went 16-0 in the SEC was the best Defensive Team I have ever seen at UK and I have been following UK Basketball for over 30 years...

When you bring in a new system, there will be adjustments and difficulties. We probably wouldn't have lost to GW and SD if Tubby were still here because the players would know the system and where to be. This is a completely different system, and there is little effort put out by the players.

Which explain how we have five 10+ loss seasons in Tubbys 10 years in the bluegrass and are in the middle of the longest FF drought in school history I guess.

Right, but he's also saying that to get there, fans are going to have to understand that it includes tanking a few games to prove a point.

Oh I'm not disputing that. The '03 team was AMAZING and I loved watching them play. That was a special group of kids that combined talent, with b-ball IQ and toughness.

And we would keep grinding out 20-13 season with a first weekend NCAA exit. We needed a change. This change will help in the long run. Tubby is an excellent Xs and Os guy... but recruiting is part of college coaching as well and you cant compete and the top level year in and year out with 2nd and 3rd tier players.

Same style on offense this year as well, they can't get the ball in to Patterson this year and last year they couldn't get the ball in to Morris.
