Tubby Smith has NOT ruined anything,not along the Kentucky Basketball Program. So folks quit blaming Tubby for every loss on this season team. This is really getting so old, that I myself have aged ten years in the last six months.

Tubby just couldnt recruit and BCG isnt the in game coach that people thought he was....

Talent may be down, but coaches should COACH to their players strengths. This team cant play GOOD man to man defense. Put them in some zone and see if they do better. Don't require that PP touches the ball EVERY possession. Many on here dont like Crawford, but he can and should drive to the basket at will. So, I blame both Tubby and BCG.

Tubby was a good coach I give that to him. But the guy could not recruit at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wasn't he the one that let Chris Lofton go? Isn't he the one who recruited Shagari Alien, Morris, Rondo (who both turned out to be wastes of scholarships), Orbzut, and many more players who turned out to be really nothing? This is a rebuilding year and once Billy G. recruits more players that has the potential just like Patterson and fit his style of coaching, the program will be turned back around for the good.

Tubby is a heck of a coach and even though UK's talent is down from their norm, the talent is good enough to be better than they have shown.

 

This year looks to be a bust, but you have to give the new coach more time to decide whether he was the right choice or not........maybe longer than most thought would be the case.

Tubby Smith averaged around 27 wins a year, won a National Championship (and please don't use the "with Pitino's players crap excuse Tubby was on that staff as well and although not the head coach he had a hand in coaching that team AND recruiting some of them), Tubby had something like a 76% win pct. I believe w/o looking it up, Went to I believe three elite 8's, was a bad ankle one year away from and another - an overtime away from another that would have made two more final fours, was in the NCAA every season and advanced at least a couple of rounds in all of them but one or two I belive (again, I haven't looked it up). I know that just the first two or three rounds is not good enough for U.K., is not for me either but there has to be some being realistic. Pitino's teams had a run that may never be seen again as far as the talent on his teams for a stretch of a few years. That kind of talent dosn't come around all the time for anyone.

Should Pitino had let Derek Anderson play in that championship game when the Dr.'s and Anderson's family gave him the o.k. then imo U.K. would have no doubt won another NC and U.K. would have had a three peat (96,97 &98)! : Lets blame sommeone for that while we are at it.

As for Tubby, the man can flat out coach basketball............Period!

 

How long is he going to be blamed for losses at U.K., I have said numerous times on here that there will be some of the bashers that are NEVER satisfied with anyone or anything no matter who it is and that will be blaming U.K. losses on OTS 10 years from now . To those people I would say...."Get Over Rick Pitino"!! He is not at U.K. anymore and hasn't been for quite some time.

Some of these same people were against OTS from the day that he was hired at U.K., they deny it but that does not change the fact.

 

There has been mention on this thread of blaming Joe B. Hall, heck, Why Not and while we are at I am sure that Adolph Rupp had a hand in this as well from the grave :eek::lol:!

 

I also want to say that I support Billy Gillispie as well, he is our coach.

I am not bashing him at all. I just get sick of all the Tubby bashing that is still going on after the man is gone, is imo ridiculous.

I know one thing, Tubby did not inherit near the talent at Minn. than what is here and he left at U.K. and the man is 10-3. Yes, he has played a weak schedule but as I and others have said I am not looking for San Diego, Stoney Point or Gardner Webb to make any final 4's anytime soon.

More good comments here, I will reserve judgement on this years team untill we can get our full strength back and playing regular minutes (Meeks and Jasper) I like BCG but he is not even comparable to the "in game" coach that OTS is.

I mostly hold this position but the loss to San Diego coupled with the loss to GW and the almost loss to Stony Brook are unacceptable with the injured squad that was being filled. One of the 3 in a year, I will let slide. All 3 in the same year and that is unacceptable.

 

Although a win over UL would have tilted that scale back in BCG's favor.

One might think that those same five players that garnered the momentum may start the second half. Not quite. In BCG's infinite wisdom, he trots the same starting five out to begin the second half. You could sense the Rupp Arena crowd's frustration when they saw this, so you could only imagine what the players felt. 10-0 Louisville run, momentum taken away, game over.

You can't play the same five players 40 mintues a game, especially when two of them are just coming off injuries. That is where UK's problem is. Their bench is not up to par with other teams.

Yeah, then Meeks was out again the next game with another injury. I agree that those five should have started the second half, but i'm fine with them not starting the game. Sometimes its nice to have a spark coming off the bench. If Meeks could have hit water from a boat this would have been a different game IMO.

Or they sprained an ankle in the shootaround and the coach didn't know about it...

That's my point. We can think, have inside information, believe it will/would have happened, but we will never know. We did, however, know that Morriss was gone and there was a good chance that the other recruits could fall through and we would get a couple more Bobby Perry's or (shudder) Sheray Thomas' in their place. This was going to be a train wreck season regardless. Tubby or BCG was facing a season of terrible talent with the exception of one or two. I figure I'll write this season off as a learning experience and see what happens after a full season/off season for BCG.

 

I disagree very much so that this would be a train wreck season regardless. If Tubby had stayed, I bet good money we dont lose to teams like Gardner Webb because we wouldn't let them put up over 80 points on us. Also as many of people have said in the thread I started about Bobby Perry, that he wouldn't make a difference that the guys we have down low are about the same as him.So we pretty much have the same team as last year then talent wise, because Patterson is putting up the same numbers as Morris for the most part. So this team has the talent to atleast be a 2nd round tournament team, because they showed they were capable of that last year. So there no reason why this year teams should be this bad, and not even make the NIT tournament. This season would not have been, and should not have been a train wreck season like it has been.
