Walton Girls BBall: What's the problem?

Featured Replies

Agree that nothing will be done this year, unfortunately! I know that last year there were some concerns raised and the administration would not address this! I do believe that if something is not done, and soon, then many players will leave. There has already been talk about this with the younger girls. It is too bad because the program was strong in the past and will take a while to recover even with changes. Even if coaching changes were made, who knows who they would get next!!

Tis true!

Do you think that the parents who have concerns are voiceing them to the administration at this time?

I would say so, isn't that part of the reason WV got a new coach in the 1st place.

I'm pretty sure we've set a record for number of posts about WV girls b-ball. Congrats.

I think Walton has mad a bad choice, and the administration knows what and how bad this has turn'd out to be. And I don't understand why they haven't addressed this issue by now? It was an on going thing, last year, and has progressed into this year, much worst. I think someone needs to step up and change something, now.

I would just hate for the girls coming up decide to move elsewhere. Cheesemans' dad coaching at Ryle. She could go there. Ginn could go back to Ryle. Sandlin lives in Williamstown and Judy lives out of district also.

How do all these kids who live out of district in other counties attend and play basketball for Walton? This post reads like recruiting going on at Walton which we all know is not a good thing.

They go to Walton because of the education. Walton is ranked very high. I'ts a small school. I would rather my child go to a small school than a school that would have 500 in one grade. Walton probably has that many in the whole school. I am sure this is the reason.

They pay tuition. Any public school district in the state can have tuition students from another district attend their school, the difference is most do not attract students from other districts. Because of Walton-Verona's excellent academic prgrams they attract many out of district tuition students and some of these students play sports

real news:

Walton-Verona senior guard Lauren Heeger was recently named Conference Player of the Week for the NCKC (North Central Kentucky Conference). She had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, in a 60-59 win over Trimble County.

She was also recognized at the school for breaking the record for 3-pointers made in a career.

Heeger is one of seven seniors on the team, which was 2-5 through Dec. 27.

The Bearcats play a 32nd District seeding game Friday at Grant County and will be aiming for the All "A" Eighth Region championship. The tourney starts Jan. 16 at Trimble County.

.

Congratulations to Lauren Heeger! I've seen this girl play and she can absolutley nail those three's. I wish you and your team the best. I think it's time for this team to get on a roll.

Congratulations to Heeger and good luck in your upcoming games.

I would hate to see the girls leave but if they are not satisified with the program, administration, coach, etc. and have other options, they may want to use these options before they play any varsity. Once they play a minute of varsity, they may not get a release to play at another school without having to set out a year. Hope this situation can be resolved before something like this happens. Just a thought: even if they get a new coach, everyone won't be happy. They never have been or never will be. There will always be people who are not satisfied or have other motives and unfortunately the coach gets all the heat and blame. It does sound like this coach has little support from the parents and was placed in a compromising position from the beginning. She can't feel good about this and it may be having a negative effect on her and her ability to coach. Additionally, I'm sure the players are hearing their parents negative opinions and this has to be effecting their committment to the coach and their play on the floor. Maybe a little support from the parents early in her tenure would have made a world of difference. All parties (administration, coach, parents, players) all play a role in this situation and are responsible to varying degrees. It doesn't sound like a good situation for anyone.

Well said! I think your right. Given the situation the only positive thing that can be done is to give support to both the coach and the players. The more I read (even my own comments on the subject) the more I realize that we are dealing with people here just not coaches and players. This situation needs some light not more darkness. My personal pledge is to be a positive force whenever and wherever I can for these PEOPLE! I would ask all of you who can to do likewise.

I think C-TOWN #12 has the right idea. Nothing very good ever results from being negative.

Make up your mind is it academics or basketball these girls are here for, something doesn't seem quite right.
