Walton Girls BBall: What's the problem?

Featured Replies

Did the previous coach have any success in the post season or the all A? I am unfamiliar with the girls program and don't really know what the expectaions should have been.

Several 20+ win seasons, All A State Final Four, Several conference Championships, and a few District runner ups leading to Regional Appearances over the past several years. Theri was definitely a winning tradition established, even if it was at a Class "A" level.

Wow. Listen. One, the girls that play varsity, have proven to win. Two years ago, they did prove everything and that they did win. So, I don't understand why you would say that. You must not follow the girls much. Second, the younger girls, yeah are good players, but their not ready for varsity. Not many girls at 10th graders can play right to varsity, they wouldn't do much better. I think you don't understand, that if the girls (starters/sr's.) don't respect the coach, it is hard for them to play for her. I'm almost sure, that pulling younger girls up, won't fix anything. It will just make a bigger mess. And watching the younger girls, I dont think I could name 5 that you could just throw in the game, and let them play, and win. I know you should start for next year, but you can't just put 5 fesh girls into varsity that won't help them at all. You have J.V games so those younger girls have the time to get better. You don't understand what you said. Moving up girls, and playing them the whole game would not help them, they would gain nothing from getting beat every game by a lot.

I would have posted this in my last post, but this comment just caught my eye. You are saying that its the players, and you think that they are the problem and want to sit them? Well, you have a girl named Hargett, if you don't know her countrygirl, you need to come watch her, she is one of the best in the region and one of the best to play at Walton for a long time, how can you sit her?? And say she can't get it done on the floor?? That's crazy and attending the SK game at Walton a few weeks back, Heeger just became the all time 3 pointer shooter in school history?? Does that mean anything? I think it means, with both playing on the floor at the same time, you may have the two best to play at Walton, maybe ever at those positions? IMO! They have proven to get it done, there is something deeper than the players. They have the talent, its not that! It's something deeper than that!

After reading Jeanie's post it made me think about yor comments again. So you think the problem is the players?? and that moving new, younger, less experienced players into the same program with the same coaches would get better results? Is this correct?? I am just asking for clarification.

Does it really matter! Coaches are not going anywhere and neither are the players, they need to dig down deep and find the strenght they need to play as a team both as coaches and players. Sometimes we are not happy with the hand we have been dealt, but it is what we do that makes a difference. Doing nothing and blaming everyone else is the coward's way out. :madman:

Agreed, but I don't think the coaches are helping much either. It goes both ways. Coaches should take leadership of them team and take control but they don't, thats not the players job!

I guess it just comes down to people being frustrated seeing what they thought was a very talented team and a good program under perform. Everyone has their opinion as to why it happens, and this forum is a great way to express those opinions. In reality only those directly involved can turn things around, and hopefully the win today against Pendelton County can be the catalyst they need to make it happen before the All "A" roles around.

I agree with that, but what is one to do?

Who do they play next???

Not for sure. I do know they play 1/5/08 vs. Owen County. WV is having a big day of it, starting in the moring 9th boys and girls will play Owen Co.( do not know the order), then JV boys/girls will play, and then Varsity boys/girls will play. I think they start at 10 am. with Varsity games being at 6:30 and 8 pm.
