I think there were 4 teams above them.

That's a shame St. X and Trinty weren't available for the second week of the season. I hope were not accused of being afraid to play the Louisville powers by having to play Colerain.

Wow ... Did anyone else reread that post? I would hope that anyone that knows anything about football wouldn't have any problem with Highlands playing Colerain over either of those Louisville schools.

Unless I'm reading this wrong, Highlands would have been the largest team in 3A as the team above them on the list, Lone Oak, was 4A and the team listed below them, Mason County, was 3A.

It is our week 3. We will have competed in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown in week 1 and the Herbie in week 2. This will be our first home game of the year and our last before we hit our 7 game conference schedule.

 

Also of note, the JV Cards return the favor the following morning, 9/6/08, by traveling to Highlands for the JV game.

 

Would LOVE for someone to give me a high-level view of what the Bluebirds have coming back. I know about the RB (Jordan?) and DB Collinsworth but what else will we see at 8801 Cheviot Road in beautiful Colerain township??

Thanks for the welcome CF. We know it will be another very difficult challenge playing against one of the premier Ohio programs, but look at it as one of those "if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger" things.

 

The returning RB is Conner. He's started the last two years and is pretty good. Having said that, the Birds will definitely be in the reloading mode. We only have two returning offensive starters returning (Conner and a linemen, Adam Dempsey whom had a very good junior year). So my guess is that the O will be struggling at that early point in the year. On D we are a little better. We lose all of our starting lbers (although Roller, whom will be a junior, played a lot and was very, very good). At the DBs, Collinsworth returns but we have to replace the other two starters. On the D line, we lose all the starters but we do have a couple of kids returning whom played a lot this year. We rotated a lot of D linemen in this year and the non starters probably got as much PT as the starters, so we should be okay there.

 

I don't have a clue what type of O we'll run next year. Mueller adjusts his O every year based on his players. This year we ran the ball probably 80% of the time. But with the big turnover on O, who knows what we'll do next year.

 

But whatever we do, we'll be very young and inexperienced at the beginning of the season.

Great high-level analysis leatherneck. Just what I was looking for.

 

I'll let you in on a little secret...Colerain is going to be very, VERY young next season. Realistically, we could be looking at 2 or even 3 losses next year. We haven't lost more than once in the regular season since 1999. :ylsuper: this is going to be Highlands best chance to take down an Ohio power like Colerain because we return 4 starters on both sides of the ball! :eek: They are:

WR Damon Sims

WR Nick Priesman

DL Adam Moser

LB Tyon Dixon

 

NO QB

NO OL

NO RB

The offense is a big question right now. The option will always be the base of our offense. However, with the success we had in the 2nd half of our playoff loss against St. X running the spread option, it wouldn't surprise me at all if we move further and further away from the true "triple" option that we've been known for.

 

As far as expectations go, they are as low as they've been in the past decade. We CardinalFans do not expect to compete for the region and are hopeful that we can make it through our conference schedule unscathed to keep the streak going (58 through '07, last loss was in '99). A playoff appearance and a playoff win would be a great season.

 

Rumor has it that the three consecutive classes after '09 EACH have the same level of talent as our '05 Seniors did ('04 season). I'll believe it when I see it but the bottom-line is that Highlands couldn't be getting us at a better time.
