Is it time for a multiplier?

Featured Replies

If any team wins a state championship they automatically demonstrate that they have an unfair advantage. The next year a multiplier of 1.2 would be used to determine their classification. If they do not make the semi's the next year, a multiplier of 0.95 of the previous 1.20 will be used for the following year. Another championship will rais the multiplier to 1.40, etc. Any team that does not make at lease the semi's in any year will be given a multipler of 0.90 for the next year. Another failure will result in another 0.90 for the following year, etc. If more than 70 players dress, there will be a multiplier of 1.16 unless they have won a championship in any activity including academic team during the previous decade then the multiplier would be prime minus 4.0

If a team ever, through the multiplier system achieves a rating of 10 or higher, they will be banned from playing until they roll doubles. If a team ever, through the multiplier system obtains a rating of 0.20 or lower, they will be given a participation trophy and allowed to field 16 players at a time. This is all the time I have to ponder this at the moment, I have to work on the CAT testing formula for a while.

That is absolutely the best idea I've read on here!!!

You've got to be kidding. Guarantee Highlands and Beechwood would never be for it. Highlands self-imposed a multiplier on themselves in order to JOIN Covington Catholic in 5A.
No, I'm not kidding. I suspect Highlands and Beechwood won't care. They'll just keep on with business as usual.

Besides, that's two schools out of 200-plus ... hardly a majority.

It's going to come to the point where we have one or the other, separation or a multiplier.

You must remember in the United States the majority rules. Unfortuatly in KHSAA the minority has ruled for a while maybe that will change soon.

The majority isn't always right. And in the case of public/private separation, the "majority" wasn't.

I don't blame private, I would fight against it all the way if I had the advantages.

It is going to happen, you can count on it.

Bell, can you answer this question with a yes or a no?

The advantages that you say that ALL privates have, will you say are also advantages that SOME Public schools have?

Bell, lets stay on the too institutionally different so we don't keep switching back and forth.

If they give financial aid, no bounderies, and can recruit students then YES. I will give you that. When you say we are not targeting athletics, I understand. But someone in the system is and it is so easy with the system and policies to get them there.

Why shouldn't it make up such a large percentage if a great percentage of private schools are placing, and have for some time placed, a greater emphasis on football than the public schools?

At our school I think all the revenue that the football team generates is given out across the board to all sports. I do not know how other schools do it but I think the Private schools can use their money any way they want it.

You know if a Private school generates 3.5 million in one year they spend 3 mil on football 400k on teachers salaries and 99k for other sports and 1k for books and other things. j/k

I really do not know the solution but maybe they should do it like NASCAR ok you can only spend X on the football program. You can only have X amount of players and if these rules are broken instead of being like Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson was penalized and had to start in the back the teams violating the rules would have to play X or T first round of the playoffs every year.:lol::lol:

Cover,

Yes I would say that is a fair assumption if a school is and independant and no real boundaires they get all the players. I had a friend the other day call me and we were talking and he said he was sending his son to BG instead of Greenwood because he said well look at sports at Bowling Green and look at sports at Greenwood. I told him that is because most athletic kids that should go to Greenwood end up at Bowling Green.

There is a total emphasis on sports more now than just a few years ago. Kids went to schools to get an education now they want to go to a school that has a good football program or one of the best soccer coaches or any other successful sports program.

I am as guilty as the next because if I thought that my son would get more exposure somewhere else I probably would have to look at it but in saying that I love where he is now and if they never get to feel what it is like to at least make a state finals game I am still happy with my decision for him to be where he is.

I am not knocking Highlands for being good every year or Trinity or X or any of the other KY football powerhouses but it truly is time for some parity as they say in the NFL. Look at how successful the NFL is and they rarely have any dominant teams well except this year The Pats and Dolphins are the most dominant on both ends of the spectrum.

No, it isn't. For every Trinity, St. Xavier and Lexington Catholic, there is a St. Mary, St. Patrick or Whitefield Academy that simply struggles to be competitive in every sport.

You can't penalize one private school without penalizing all of them.

Good point there westsider. I think when it come tournment time all private schools need to play in the same class. No exceptions.

Not time for a multipler, it's time for a split.

Trenches07 - I believe westsider is saying the opposite of what you think he's saying. I conveniently posted the quote (this time, in it's proper context) above.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

How about giving all those who do not have a state championship ring, a state championship ring? Is that where this is heading? Because, all colleges with all of the outlandish recruiting efforts, are still not on the same level as others; even with ever stiffening recruiting rules. Beyond that, the NFL teams are far from equal even with a draft, and trades and whatever else goes on there. The are soooooooo many factors. If you think a simple multiplier effect will work, and if it does, I will ask that you run for president, and as president of this fine country, find a multiplier effect to fix health care.

Highlands would then petition to drop back to 4A. They do not want to see LexCath in 5A:thumb:

???? Im confused now, they killed LexCath this year. They are I think 2-1 against the Knights if not better then that. Yes it might mean one more tough opponent to play and on occassion maybe losing to the Knights but I doubt Highlands would still mind much.

Is a multiplier needed? Maybe, but I can't see it having much effect on the landscape of football. 4A might be a bit more wide open without LexCath. Otherwise St. X and Trinity have they cieling effect. 5A is always gonna be dominated by the few teams at the top with an occassional good year from one school or another. NCC will still always have the same people coming up. LCA's program is just gonna keep growing and growing as more and more people in Lexington start going there.
