December 10, 200718 yr Now that we've had a year to see the six-class system in action ... is it time to put a multiplier on private schools? The best I can figure, a 1.5 multiplier (adding 50 percent to the schools' current enrollment figure) would have the following effects: Trinity, St. Xavier and Covington Catholic would be in 6A. Lexington Catholic would be in 5A. DeSales and Christian Academy of Louisville would be in 4A. Newport Catholic, Owensboro Catholic and Covington Holy Cross would be in 3A. Lexington Christian, Louisville Holy Cross and Bishop Brossart would be in 2A. Bethlehem and Kentucky Country Day would remain in Class A.
December 10, 200718 yr Author Thats what they do in Tn, but they use a 1.75% multiplier...Actually, I think it's 1.85 ... Illinois uses 1.65 ... Missouri uses 1.35, I think.
December 10, 200718 yr Actually, I think it's 1.85 ... Illinois uses 1.65 ... Missouri uses 1.35, I think. You may be right. Wasn't aware Il and Mo used it. Seems to me, since all our bordering states or a good majority use this system, Ky should follow suit.

December 10, 200718 yr If all of our bordering states jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you jump off it, too???? No, but, this is something that ought to be considered. Whats the matter, you afraid LCA couldn't compete?
December 10, 200718 yr Actually, I think it's 1.85 ... Illinois uses 1.65 ... Missouri uses 1.35, I think. One thing to factor into your thinking. Those other states take their multiplier times the total enrollment. Kentucky classifies football on male enrollment. Certainly, a lower multiplier would be needed or the effect of the multiplier would be disproportionate.

Whats the matter, you afraid LCA couldn't compete? Nothing serious was meant by that comment!! It was just a chance to inject a little humor with a typical "Dad" comment! I should have placed a smilie at the bottom.
December 10, 200718 yr Actually, I think it's 1.85 ... Illinois uses 1.65 ... Missouri uses 1.35, I think. If they're saying that a boy in a private school in TN is worth 1.85, KY's multiplier has to be at least 1.86...
December 10, 200718 yr If they're saying that a boy in a private school in TN is worth 1.85, KY's multiplier has to be at least 1.86... Agreed has to be!! In all seriousness after the games this weekend something must be done in order to level the playing field. Or the gap between the haves and the have nots will only get bigger in athletics.
December 10, 200718 yr But all the haves are not only the Private Schools, and all the have nots are not only Public Schools. Will we put a 1.25 multiplier on Football clasification for Open Enrollment/Independent? Will there be a 1.43 multiplier on Urban Louisville/NKY/Lexington Schools? Plus, didn't only two Private Schools win Championships? Didn't win all of them. If T and X are put onto the same side of the bracket permanently, word is the main propnents behind any Public/Private split, or multiplier are going to cease talk about that. FWIW- X and T have only met I think 4 times for the title. It's not like it happens every year.

That would affect Beechwood and Highlands. I'm starting to see a trend. At least 4 of the six champs had paid tuition or open enrollment. Public schools have a hard time competing with these schools when students are choosing to attend there for these power house football programs. Sure public schools have years where they are outstanding as well. The difference is these schools never seem to have rebuilding years, where many public schools will spend 2-3 rebuilding years for every outstanding season.
December 10, 200718 yr When X and T use a multiplier, they're still the 2 biggest enrollments. That wouldnt change a thing. It would, however affect Lex Cath, LCA, NCC, Cov HC, Owens Cath and a few others. With exception to Lex Cath, the others aren't that dominant. Maybe, Lex Cath will opt to move up a class and then all the bickering would subside.
December 10, 200718 yr Private school kids are bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter so they should count for more. Makes sense to me. Good lesson to teach public school kids.
