I'll go with Kyle Umberger. He helped lead his team further than any 16th region team has gone the last 25 years.

Well, considering that Rose Hill was often considered a walk through game on the schedule in the 90s, then OJ Mayo comes along and they start playing for regional championships...I'm going to have to say Mayo.

Mike Scott from Greenup County played D-1 at Wake Forest and UK, but did not play in the NBA. There was a Final Four appearance with him in 1984.

As of now, no one else has played in NBA, but as for d-1, do not forget Mike Scott from Greenup in the mid-80's (Wake Forest and UK)

Those are just some of the dominate players in my lifetime. I think Zornes really played with a passion and was one of those guys who was hated by every fan of opposing teams (When people don't like you on the ball court you're doing something right - Same could be said for Surgalski). Frank Lee was just an athletic freak. I believe he held Boyd's high point total for a game for a while until it was broken by Antonio Owens.

 

Say what you want about Mayo and his short stay at Rose Hill. He was at one time a part of the 16th region and deserves to be on this list as much as anyone else. I'd say the greatest any of us will get to see play in our lifetimes. The kid's an athlete. Like him or dislike him, you can't disagree with that.

BUT.....you cant forget about former greats like "Roger Zornes" Phil Pratt, Dave Towler........We are talking about such a different brand of basketball being played now, than what was played 10 yrs ago, let alone 30 yrs ago. Why not break it down by 1970s, 1980s, 1990, 2000s.......that may make it interesting.

But it wasn't just OJ, you also had Marcus Thomas, Marcus Dawson, Mark King and a few others who contributed big time. As a 7th and 8th grader which is when he played in the 16th region, OJ was not the best player to play in the 16th in the last 25 years.

great point.......Dawson was a monster player:thumb::thumb: King was a great shooter.

Tyler Zornes may not have been the MVP of the last 25 years, but he was surely the biggest gun I ever watched. He fired up shots from all over the court, his teammates always seemed a little frustrated by him in my opinion. He was a scorer though!

If defense is a prerequisite, Marques Dawson was the best defensive player I've seen in the 16th in my lifetime. He still holds Ky's record for steals in a game with 16 vs. West Carter in '03.

I agree that Dawson was a great defensive player. According to this thread about 16th region records, Dawson's record is actually 18 steals in a game.
