Lexington Catholic 49 Lone Oak 7

Featured Replies

Congratulations to Lexington Catholic. While I was skeptical of Lone Oak’s schedule most of the season, I jumped on the bandwagon after they beat North Bullitt and especially after the Warren East win. LC clearly outplayed and out matched LO and is the better team. Congratulations to Lone Oak on an outstanding year, it is tough to lose in a championship game under any circumstances, but especially tough when the outcome is completely one-sided. This, however, should not completely over shadow the fact that they did have an outstanding year, which will hopefully do wonders for their program in terms of students wanting to play and community support.

LO team gave their community a great ride. My guess is LC put together some pass coverages, it appeared they played man on one side and zone on the other on several occassions.

If LO had every developed a running game, the passing game would have been even more effective. I don't think you can a state championship being a passing team only.

Interesting, LC really put the pressure on him. I would say other teams could have put pressure on them as well. Teams get so caught up in the coverages they forget about the pressure, not coach Letton.

LO probably was very satisfied with just getting there....like most first time programs.

Lone Oak should be in 3A

Really?

Lone Oak should be in 3A

No offense, but are you serious? LO got to the championship game. LexCath is just a fantastic team that is miles ahead of the rest of the class. LexCath manhandled Bell Co and Harrison as well. Should those two teams move down to 3A as well!?!?

As a Lone Oak fan all I can say is congratulations to the Knights. You guys were awesome. Guy and Israel are incredible talents. Great lines on both sides of the ball.

I'm sure 14 other opponents they played applied pressure too. The difference is that those 14 other teams do not have a D-1 stud and 3 other linebackers that run sub 4-5 forties. The speed was clearly the difference, not the philosophy.

No other team that LO played put pressure on them like LC. They would zone blitz or blitz LB's but would not cover the back on the release or the screen game. LC blitz from every place possible but still covered every possible receiver. The screen game went no where. the only plays that worked were the slants and hitches and LC seemed to be willing to give them up. LC's defense was physical, fast, and intelligent! They knew which receivers could hurt them and those that couldn't and covered accordingly. LO is a great team, with great talent. #8 and #5 would start on almost every team in the state, if not all! They just faced a much better team both athletically and in preperation. Congrats to both teams, both teams coaches, and both teams communities!

The Knights came out much more prepared than their opponents. Great job by the LC coaching staff!

Don't take this the wrong way. LexCath has a great coaching staff. But the talent gap was just too large. LexCath's talent and athleticism was way above and beyond anyone in 4A this year. Its like a lot of people said. Bell was the only team that IMO could play with LexCath in 3A, but Bell could not beat a Lexington Catholic team this year.

Congrats to LexCath on a great season! And LoneOak. That was a great accomplishment for their program.

I heard last evening that Lone Oak passed on EVERY down. Not one rushing play! Can anyone confirm that? I attended several Tim Couch games and even he handed the ball off every once in a while... Passing on every play may be a state playoff record.

Robinson might have run the ball a few times, but Lone Oak never handed the ball off to a running back. That's almost standard operating procedure for them, although they did run a few draw plays (some for big yardage) against Warren East in the semifinals.

LC did not manhandle Bell. Again did you watch the game? It was a 5 point game until late in the third after a Bell fumble. The final TD did not come until the final 4 minutes of the game when the outcome was not in doubt.

LC had a larger marigin against LO in the 2nd quarter.

Coach Letton does do a good job but remeber he has some pieces no one else in 4A can come close to.:creepy::creepy:

True, but PT in the semis, did seem play with coverages in mind. Many times LC brought six people...I doubt many teams LO had faced had that much confidence in their rush...then again speed played a factor.

Knights had this one under control from the start.

LC does have great team speed, but many overstate it. Team speed is not necessarily measured according to 40 times. Well prepared teams can look fast when they do things correct. Teams that pursue well may appear to have more speed than is shown on the 40 stopwatch. There are teams that have more team speed than LC, but it's the way it's utilized that makes the difference.

LC may have 3 sub 4.5 forties on thier coaching staff, but not in thier Linebacking corps.

They tried out Sunday morning, we could ask them! I agree with CoverCorner, their speed is way over blown. They had one that was sub 4.4 but the rest were just as fast as any other highschool kid, just looked fast cause of the Chaos they create with their blitz scheme. Bet their players are benefited by practicing against their coaches!
