The Young Indiana Jones chronicles. Volume I has been relaesed (vol II comes out next week) and they were produced with 100 documentaries specifically for the History channel. Great stuff spanning from Theodore Roosevelt to WWI to the late 1920's...

Past Imperfect: History According to the Movies

Maybe my school was a little more strict then... It was hard to pass anything rated over PG13... And being that Crash has lots of foul language, violence, and some nudity, I just figured that it wouldn't play.

 

Skip the scene with the nudity, it is very brief anyway and that particular scene really serves no purpose for the rest of the film anyway. And if your showing a film with as much graphic violence and language as Black Hawk Down then that argument against Crash can go out the window. I wouldn't recommend it for a Freshman or Sophomore class but I would for Junior or Senior class. Most of them are at least 17 so they could see it anyway. I think this movie has a great message and is a real eye opener but I will agree with you that it may be tough for it to be aloud in the classroom just because of the rating, I just don't think the rating should overlook the quality and meaning of the film.

Lots, now I have to build a library.

Forrest Gump. While it doesn't deal with anything in detail, it gives a thumbnail sketch of an awful lot of important events. Music is great too.

I heard a social studies teacher at a PD once that had what sounded like a cool final exam project.

 

Kids had to take the Billy Joel song "I didn't start the fire" and identify and explain the historical importance of each person/event in the song.

Same song... Had to list the references as the song played and see how many we can get and how quickly.. Group discussion after the song.
