December 7, 200718 yr Author An Inconvenient Truth:jump::jump: Good example of a campaign video/shockumentary I do use this in my classroom. We take the CD and use it at recess as a frisbee. and as an introductory into the Father of the Internet that lets they post on MySpace.
December 7, 200718 yr There were several documentary style JFK things that came out at the time of the movies release. They didn't focus on all the conspiracy stuff, just the basic context of his time in the oval office, the shooting etc. Can't recall any exact titles off hand, but I know there are some out there.

December 7, 200718 yr Apollo 13 is a VERY nice choice. There is a commentary track on the Apollo 13 dvd where Jim Lovell and his wife comment on the film and tell which is real and which was all Hollywood. Just amazing that a majority of the film was as accurate as they could make it. I have seen this movie over 100 times...literally. There was documentary on about the mission a month ago. I was astrounded at how many lines they took verbatim from the actual footage/recordings.
December 7, 200718 yr Author Been thinking about using the episode of Band of Brothers where they find the concentration camps. Language is rough, so that has been holding me back on it.
December 7, 200718 yr I watched Hoosiers many times when I was in high school. Not sure if there was an educational purpose behind that.

December 7, 200718 yr huh? http://appalshop.org/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=253 In 1978 Richard Nixon chose this small mountain jurisdiction for his first public appearance since resigning the Presidency. Priceless footage of his visit introduces this incisive and sometimes hilarious look at the engines that drive American politics. The film explores the machinations of party politics in this rural and staunchly Republican county: Hollow to hollow vote-hunting; family squabbles over candidates; patronage promises; speech-making on the courthouse steps; and the up-and- down career of the incumbent County Judge-Executive who sought re-election while under indictment for vote fraud conspiracy. "An excellent addition for political science courses in high school or college." -Library Journal "The best comment I have ever seen on Watergate. It explains how deeply corruption is engrained in the political life of America. A terrifyingly real film." -Irby Brown, Professor of English and Film, University of Richmond
December 7, 200718 yr I used "Remember the Titians" during Black History month. We actually had a teacher that went to that high school and was a senior the year all this took place. After we watched the movie, I had this teacher as a guest speaker. He would bring in his yearbook and show the kids what the "real" people looked like and how the movie was different than what happened in real life. The kids loved it.
December 7, 200718 yr Author Movies that I show in class: Astronomy Contact Deep Impact Apollo 13 Signs Advanced and Conceptual Physics October Sky Earth Space Science Dante's Peak The Core With these "Hollywood" films, we can go back and discuss scientific accuracies and inaccuracies. Some of them are pretty inaccurate (The Core), but it provides a great path for discussion as to what IS correct. They see many of these movies on TV or in the theatre and by watching them in class, you can correct those misconceptions. Also, we will write movie reviews on them sometimes, for the writing portfolio. Recently, I purchased the Planet Earth documentary series. My students are enthralled by the footage. They sit in spellbound silence as the scenes unfold. This is great for those days that 1/2 of the class in on a field trip and you need something for those that remain. How do you work Signs in? That is a good movie by the way.
