I will answer one of your question. The point of "running the score up" as you put it is this, Elliott Co has plans of making a deep run into the post season. I think coach Mays is more worried about working on things in games situations than the score. Again, Greenup's style is why the score was what it was. This is just the second game of the season and Elliott is trying to get better with every game just like all the other teams.

I tried to tell everyone - this team could win a state championship in the next 2 years. I told you what would happen if Greenup tried to run and gun with them.

Greenup chose to try and run with Elliott, which led to a 40-12 lead after one period. Early in the second quarter, Ferguson and Evan Faulkner was on the bench. Soon after, the remaining starters were sitting. Greenup also was running 5 in and 5 out, which led to some easy scores from Elliott County. The third period was played the same way. Elliott was not running up the score, but Greenup contuined to give Elliott easy basket, which they took advantage of.

 

Elliott County will play Christian Count(preaseason top 25 according to the Herald Leader) in the Kentucky Bank Shootout. They will play Mason County(preseason #1 according to the Herald Leader) at the fieldhouse. They also particiapte in the 5/3rd tournament. They could possibly play Rose Hill(preseason top 25 according to Herald Leader) in the Class "A" tournament, and if they are fortunate enough to win there, they will represent the 16th in the Class "A" state tournament.

 

According to the post game radio, Ferguson led Elliott County with 29 points. Couldn't catch his rebounds or assist but did have a good all around game. Evan Faulkner had 21 points and 6 rebounds. Timmy Knipp scored 20 and added 7 blocked shots. Tyler Maynard came off the bench to score 17 points. Ethan Faulkner added 13 points but racked up 18 assist and 10 rebounds. Chris Knipp and Jonathon Morgan contributed 10 and 11 points respectively.

 

Ferguson had 10 rebounds and 6 asst to go with the 29points. He sat out

6min. in the 2nd and 7min in the 4th

I said the big "E" would win by 55, I only missed by 13. The big "E" will do this to a lot of teams this year. Greenup could not have won with any style of play, stall or run they still lose. So I'm assuming the Greenup coach played his style and worked on the things he wants his team to do in the future. If the Greenup program is moving toward an up-tempo game, this game film will be a great teaching tool, Elliott plays it well! Go big "E"

Only in the 16th would you get this comment in regards to a near 70 point loss. Everyone entitled to their opinion and most opinions will be favorable toward Elliott on this board and that's okay.

 

One last note here, look at the two teams in the finals last year and check out their schedules. Now that's how you prepare for a deep run. Their records and stats came against whole two or three levels higher in comp and they were prepared come tourney time. Elliott did not face a ranked team throughout the tourney until the loss to Warren Central which was inevitable.

 

I hope your right. I hope blowing out teams like this does help in the end. I have never met a competitor that left the court after a loss like this and think "hey, we learned something tonight." Don't think so.

As far as Elliott's strength of schedule outside of the 16th region they play #1 Mason County, possibly in the 5/3 Bank Classic #2 Lexington Catholic, and WV state champions Huntington High. So their strength of schedule outside of the region looks pretty tough. Elliott should make a serious run at the state this year.

Obviously Elliott County did something right last year considering they were one of eight teams left when the state tournament quarterfinals were played. They did lose to Warren Central. 5 sophmore starters, a junior, and an 8th grader who had never played in the state tournament lost to 5 senior starters and two or three seniors off the bench, who had players on thier team that had played 6 times in Rupp Arena. WC was the more expierenced, matured team. But last year doesn't matter. Elliott County is trying to prepare themselves for anothner trip to the state tournament, and sitting your starters for half the game would have gotten them no where tonight. They were trying to better themselves, as they will with every game this season.

I have a serious question for you? Why do you find it necessary to come into 16th region threads and hack on posters, teams, schedules, etc.? It's actually quite tiresome. If your team is better prepared because of some stellar schedule, good luck to them this season.

Seems to me it would be in everybody's best interest for the top two teams in the region to schedule a regular-season game. Why didn't they?
