It remains to be seen how much competetion Huntington High will be. They may be defending state champs in the Mountain State, but they graduated their top six in June!

Elliott did do something right. They won the games in front of them until they met up with a legit top 25 team and lost as predicted. Them reaching the regionals last year was great, but they reached it by not having to face Russell with Jon "Russell's 25 point-per-game leader" Vanhoose and Rose Hill lost in their one and only post season game in the first round of their district. Elliott is a good team in a below average region. That might not be the consensus on this messageboard, but it is throughout the state.

 

I hope EC knocks off some good teams this year and that will eliviate a ton of doubters.

 

What is your point in trying to demoralize Elliott County basket ball program. Did they beat one of your favorite teams, or do you just love bashing kids who are playing their hearts out?

Obviously Elliott County did something right last year considering they were one of eight teams left when the state tournament quarterfinals were played. They did lose to Warren Central. 5 sophmore starters, a junior, and an 8th grader who had never played in the state tournament lost to 5 senior starters and two or three seniors off the bench, who had players on thier team that had played 6 times in Rupp Arena. WC was the more expierenced, matured team. But last year doesn't matter. Elliott County is trying to prepare themselves for anothner trip to the state tournament, and sitting your starters for half the game would have gotten them no where tonight. They were trying to better themselves, as they will with every game this season.

Keep up the good work ,you guys (Elliott Co) are the only thing that makes a RH fan shake in their boots.You have a great team ,we loved watching you play at Rupp last year.Good luck this year.:thumb:

Typical is 44 responses on this thread regarding a game that was between EC and "Average Joe's Gym" while Lex Cath was a top 5 team being knocked of by Cov Cath and the MC vs Tates Creek threads combined doesn't even equal half of this one. That is, I guess, typical.

I actually think it would be great if the folks in higher populated areas of the state had the passion for high school sports the way the 16th region does. At the Mason Co - Tates Creek game last night the place wasn't half full - and Creek is not a big gym.

I agree. When I think of Elliott county and Rose Hill, as the top 2 teams in the 16th this year, I think of all the beatings they have taken over the years. I am sure they feel it is nice to be on the other side for a while.

Looking at the scoreboard, a loss to Madison Central the #3 team in the state at that time is not such a bad thing after winning the Glenn Academy tournament by defeating two top rated Georgia teams and a top 20 team out of Florida. Your point is?

Apathy and the fact that there are far more entertainment options in the urban areas is what depresses the attendance at games. Lex-area and L'ville-area schools are notorious for this, save for a few exceptions. Out in the sticks, HS sports is the only game in town, for the most part.

Its not the only entertainment in town. I actually skipped hee-haw to go watch to go watch the game last night.
