Christian County lost tonight to a Warren Central team that is down from graduating Jeremy Anderson and point guard Britt. But CC should be better than any comp in the 16th. All this score will do is reaffirm what the rest of the state believes, any top 25 team could walk through the 16th.

Elliott didn't really "run" it up, Greenup kept up the press which led to a lot of very easy shots.

Ferguson, who is/was Elliott's leading scorer, went out 2 minutes into the second quarter. He did not return until the half was over. One of the Faulkner's went out in the second quarter until after the half. I'm not sure, but I think around three minutes, at least three starters were out in the second quarter. Some/all starters played the whole third quarter, I'm pretty sure. Fourth was half and half. I'm not on the coaching staff on Elliott's team, so I don't know the head coach's thinking, but I'm pretty sure if I were, I would let my "heroes" get their averages before sitting out the whole game. Elliott could have just played subs all the game, but what good would that have done? I'm also pretty sure that Coach Mays had no intention of demoralizing anyone. He only had 10 varsity players and most played quality minutes.

Greenup chose to try and run with Elliott, which led to a 40-12 lead after one period. Early in the second quarter, Ferguson and Evan Faulkner was on the bench. Soon after, the remaining starters were sitting. Greenup also was running 5 in and 5 out, which led to some easy scores from Elliott County. The third period was played the same way. Elliott was not running up the score, but Greenup contuined to give Elliott easy basket, which they took advantage of.

 

Elliott County will play Christian Count(preaseason top 25 according to the Herald Leader) in the Kentucky Bank Shootout. They will play Mason County(preseason #1 according to the Herald Leader) at the fieldhouse. They also particiapte in the 5/3rd tournament. They could possibly play Rose Hill(preseason top 25 according to Herald Leader) in the Class "A" tournament, and if they are fortunate enough to win there, they will represent the 16th in the Class "A" state tournament.

 

According to the post game radio, Ferguson led Elliott County with 29 points. Couldn't catch his rebounds or assist but did have a good all around game. Evan Faulkner had 21 points and 6 rebounds. Timmy Knipp scored 20 and added 7 blocked shots. Tyler Maynard came off the bench to score 17 points. Ethan Faulkner added 13 points but racked up 18 assist and 10 rebounds. Chris Knipp and Jonathon Morgan contributed 10 and 11 points respectively.

People talked about Greenup using the run-and-gun style and that apparently didnt work. My guess is we wont see many teams try to run with Elliott. There isnt a team in the 16th as athletic as Elliott. Cant wait to see them play some "good" competition.

Elliott only dresses 10, so even clearing the bench puts some pretty good players in.

 

Elliott also had a huge assist night, lead by Ethan Faulkners 18 (wow), they passed the ball better than I have ever saw them.

It doesn't really matter at this point. This will just reinforce what most of the state already believes. Elliott will have to get some quality wins at some time. Good win though.
