I think you have to give it to the kid from Lone-Oak he is the only one in this class that is setting records, and crushing state and National records in the same year. Based on this year he has to be the front runner I hope politics don't keep him from making it.

Another thing hurting him is the lack of quality opponents on Somerset's schedule. Non-district was pretty good, but the district was very weak. Cole didn't get the touches in a lot of those district games because they were blowouts. It would be great to see a kid from this area win it, though. Good luck John.

 

His numbers are totally impressive when you consider he only played half a game in half of their schedule. He could have had 10 more TDs if he had the minutes of PT. Probably won't win for 2 reasons... our area of the state for voting and he's going to Vandy not UK or U of L.

How in the world are you not mentioning Corey Robinson he only completes 77% of his passes, has over 5000 yards passing and has like 86 touchdown passes. Don't care who you have played, UNBELIEVABLE! He and Farris from Boone and Matthews from Shelby, in that order is how it should be.

 

Bottom line. They have not seen him play. Keep in mind most of these guys on here are not the voters. Sorry if the media does not know him he is out.

The most complete football player in the state of Kentucky is Belfry's running back/LB Dustin May.

Maybe someone else can help me out, but you can trust my word that in Belfry's "Big" games, May has been awesome on both sides of the ball. By "big" games I will hesitantly list Belfry's competition, by no means will it compare to that of a Boone County or a Trinity, but for the seize of school Belfry is it is pretty sound:

 

 

Corbin- May ran for over 120 yards and 2 scores.

Pikeville- May ran for right around 200 yards.

Sheldon Clark (2X)- May was on the upper half of the century mark both games.

Johnson Central- Well over 100+ yards.

Somerset- Over 200 yards rushing....

 

Once again I don't have specific stats, if someone can fill them in for me, but all of the bigger games May has not only ran for well over 100 yards per game, but he has done so with minimal carries. This also doesn't include defensive stats, as May at the MLB osition has had numerous 10+ tackle games and recorded quite a few sacks and forced fumbles.

 

Needless to say, Belfry has matched up with some unbelievable individual players throughout this season, some of which have had Mr. Football mention over the past year; John Cole (Somerset), Shawn Grimm (Johnson Central), Adam Dials (Sheldon Clark), Daniel Harmon (Pikeville), and Clint Cashen (Corbin). In every game, May has been the most dominant player, let alone the best all-around player. By the dominance I speak of I rfeer to his size, ability to breka tackles, ability to capitalize in critical situations, and ability to take over the game on the defensive side.

 

With that being said, May has impressive numbers, but not eye popping numbers to stand out with Robinson, Stein, Farris et all. Additionally, May will very likely be playign on Saturday's, but he has never had stars by his name on recruiting websites like a Winston Guy, EJ Fields, or Aaron Boyd. And, he also has the misfortune of being from Eastern Kentucky, which by and large is the weakest region in the state this year on the whole, and also a perverbial black-hole for media.

 

BGP has by far the best collection of intelligent, football savy fans you could find, but I am willing to bet over 60% of this sight would be unfamiliar with May. This is a direct reflection of what a lack of media coverage can do.

 

I posted some of his individudal season stats earleir in this thread, it's hard for any player in the state to match what he ahs done over the course of his career.

 

2007: 11 games, 152 carries, 1506 yards, 25 TD (@ State Semi-Finals, 13-0 record) May is currently sharing the backfield with Ivan Lee who has rushed for over 1200 yards. May missed 2 games due to injury.

 

2006: 14 games, 242 carries, 1425 yards, 17 TD (Reached State-Semi's, 11-3 Record) May shared carries with another 1000 yard rusher in Corey Coleman, and G Epling ran for over 800 yards.

 

2005: 12 games reported, 139 carries, 1016 yards, 14 TD (Reached State-Semi's, 11-3 Record) May ended up with almost 1500 yards that season. Belfry had three 1,000 yard rushers in the backfield with Matt Maynard and Corey Coleman.

 

You hit the nail on the head, there is no way to substantiate any claims for one player or the other. Do I think Dustin May is Mr. Football? NO... not with some of the QB's out there. Do I think he is one of the top players in the state and definately one of the top 2 running backs? MAYBE, he's the best I have seen this year. Do I think he definately needss to fall on All-State first team lists somehwre? YES, without a doubt, this kid represents what high school football is all about.

If Lone Oak can defeat Warren East on Friday night, and then win the championship game against Harrison County or probably Lexington Catholic, Corey Robinson should get all votes casted for Kentucky Mr. Football, in my opinion.

I am an obvious Lone Oak fan and also agree if Corey leads Lone Oak to a perfect 15-0 season then beyond a shadow of a doubt he should be the winner of Kentucky Mr. Football.

I do think there schedule has been pretty average to weak, but, a perennial losing program going undefeated and making the semis in 4a should be plenty sufficient to earn his place amongst the leaders. I'm a believer that 1 man doesn't make a team, but, he's carried his all year long and doesn't have the strong supporting cast around him that many of the others do.

John Cole is my pick. John epitomizes what an student athlete is. He is a 4.0 student (could have gotten into Vandy on grades even if he didn't run a 4.4 40), an exceptional multi sport athlete (may actually be better at baseball), a leader in his school, a positive roll model for the underclassmen and humble young man.

 

Oh yeah he is a pretty good receiver as well holding career and single season records for TDs, career record for receiving yardage and has done it against all opponents. His stats are as impressive against the top teams he has played against as they are any other team.

 

Senior season numbers are Receptions 76 Yards 1623 Rec TDs 23 Tot TDs 27

Junior season numbers were Receptions 86 Yards 1891 Rec TDs 28 Tot TDs 34

Sophomore season numbers were Receptions 49 Yards 1131 Rec TDs 15

Corey is surrounded by a wealth of talent. He would be the 1st person to admit it.

[ere's my list. My list is based on who elevated their team because of their play. Lone Oak has gone 6-5, 5-5, 5-5 then elevating to 13-0 this year. Trinity has records of 10-2, 14-1, 13-2, and 11-2 this year.
