Alex Matthews is BEST Quarterback in the state. He has been hurt but is back putting up big numbers.

 

 

Matthews is a great talent, but Corey Robinson should be the front runner. Over 5100 yards passing, 86 TD's and a 76% completion rate. He plays excellent defense when called upon to do so. He runs well and is even a good punter.

 

Against a common opponent (North Bullitt) here is a comparison:

 

Matthews: YDS 324 Atts 27 Comp 20 TD 3

 

Robinson: YDS 348 Atts 51 Comp 33 TD 5

 

Obviously, Matthews averaged more yards per pass, but Robinson's performance in a fierce playoff game is impressive. 5 TD's stands out to me as a key stat.

 

The constant complaints about LO's schedule are overblown. The schedule is middle of the pack, far from the "worst" many claim it to be. Robinson has been excellent on both sides of the ball in the playoffs. He deserves serious consideration.

He's got some great numbers no question about it. However, you should take the 5th in the nation ranking with a grain of salt. Not all teams, actually in a lot of states not even most teams, post their stats with MaxPreps. Look at the Kentucky rankings and you'll find a lot of state leaders missing.

Im going with a defensive player....Meade County

Chris Roe Lb 156 tackles 11 for a loss.. 8 ints. 7 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries. He also was all area offensive lineman of the year 2 years running and defensive player 2 years running. He's our kicker , center, linebacker, and sometimes fullback. His most important position is team leader.

I know it is difficult to follow all the previous threads on a player, but it was me who early in the season said that after watching several camps this summer, that Corey Robinson was one of the top two quarterbacks in the state. He is a good athlete, has a strong enough arm with a quick, compact release, and his mechanics (unlike many others) were very good. If you are looking for someone to knock this kid, you have the wrong guy!

 

That being said, I am being honest when I say his competition has been dismal. Yes, this does put some doubt into his outstanding accomplishments. A closer look at several teams that Corey Robinson broke several longstanding passing records against, including their classification and season record:

 

Todd County Central (2A) 1-10

Reidland (2A) 1-9

Muhlenburg North (4A) 2-9 including a forfeit victory. Lone Oak played them twice.

Obion County Central (TN) I don't know their record, but they are the worst of this list.

 

That is five of Lone Oak's 13 games against............YES.........junior varsity type competition.

Actually, Obion might be the best of the four ... which isn't saying much.

No dispute here with that premise. Robinson is a very good QB, but competition level has to be taken into consideration just as much as a kid's statistics.

Thanks for clarifying your opinion of Robinson from seeing him at a camp. I did misunderstand your point.

 

The 5 teams you listed are poor, but Robinson was equally dominant against quality competition. He was spectacular in the comeback against Calloway earlier in the year, passing and rushing. He engineered 2 wins vs Calloway, and wins against Caldwell, Fulton City and North Bullitt, all teams ranked in the top 10 of their respective classes at one point or another.

 

I respect the fact that you are not knocking this kid, but others dog LO's schedule to the point of ridiculous. Lone Oak fans aren't saying the schedule is strong, but it isn't the disaster some claim it to be.

 

That's why I asked the question, "who else has posted Robinson's numbers". If you look at Massey, there are some 100 teams in Kentucky who play weaker schedules. Therefore a slightly better than average QB should have chalked up 4000 yards and 55 TD's in every corner of the state. To hear some detractors, their bowlegged grannies could put up Robinson's numbers if they played his schedule. Any rationale person knows that's garbage. No one else has come close to Corey this year in stats.

 

I know there are other worthy contenders for Mr Football. Stein, Matthews and Farris are all deserving. But LO fans come to Robinson's defense when they see asinine posts. Please know I don't include yours (strongopenyon) in that category.

If Lone Oak can defeat Warren East on Friday night, and then win the championship game against Harrison County or probably Lexington Catholic, Corey Robinson should get all votes casted for Kentucky Mr. Football, in my opinion.

^ Honestly, I like your picks, though I would put Winston over Boyd as well as Matthews.....Boyd has a huge upside, but struggled against the real good teams he played this season.

I agree with that. I also think one candidate gets eliminated Friday night at Trinity.

The most complete football player in the state of Kentucky is Belfry's running back/LB Dustin May. The kid is big, strong, smart, and fast. He will be playing D1 football somewhere guarenteed. He plays both ways and simply just dominates people. You'll see that against Breathitt County this weekend. If he were playing in the backfield for Trinity or Highlands, this would be a no brainer.
