[ere's my list. My list is based on who elevated their team because of their play. Lone Oak has gone 6-5, 5-5, 5-5 then elevating to 13-0 this year. Trinity has records of 10-2, 14-1, 13-2, and 11-2 this year.

2. QB Will Stein, Trinity

3. WR John Cole, Somerset

4. ATHLETE EJ Fields, Frankfort

5. RB Cory Farris, Boone County

6. QB Alex Matthews, Shelby County

8. ATHLETE Winston Guy, LexCath

9. QB Clay Cecil, Highlands

Congrats to all nominated on this list...Each could win the award based on merit of their season. I'm glad you included Clay Cecil of HHS on the list. He doesn't really have the WOW stats but just does everything on and off the field to merit strong consideration. He is the calm and quiet LEADER of the HHS undefeated Bluebirds and defines the word WINNER!

After last night, who's stock is rising, who's is falling? Using my own list I posted earlier last week:

 

1. QB Will Stein, Trinity- You can't say his stock is falling, but the disparity in my mind between him and Robinson has vastly closed with Robinson leading his team to unprecedented heights.

 

2. ATHLETE EJ Fields, Frankfort- Stock falling, team got manhandled by Beechwood and Fields was contained.

 

3. QB Corey Robinson, Lone Oak- Stock continues to soar, who would have guessed Lone Oak would be in the State Finals? A solid performance and/or win vs. LexCath and hand the kid the trophy.

 

4. WR John Cole, Somerset- Although idle, stock rising. Winning the Gatorade Player of the Year looks good on his Mr. Football resume'.

 

5. RB Cory Farris, Boone County- Stock slightly falling, Boone County's running game was shut down by Trinity, but being shut down by trinity would happen to alot of offensive players.

 

6. WR Aaron Boyd, Henry Clay- With every round the playoffs go on his stock falls, especially when Cole is the best receiver in the state, and Guy is the best player in Lexington.

 

7. ATHLETE Winston Guy, LexCath- Stock rising. Committing to UK always helps your chances, so does leading your team to the state finals. But what really makes Guy rise beyond Boyd IMO is his newfound roles in LexCath's scheme running the ball and running the QB position.

 

8. QB Alex Matthews, Shelby County- Stock falling, sitting at home as other better QB's pull away will do that.

 

9. RB Dustin May, Belfry- Stock rising. May did everything but sell hot dogs in Belfry's surprising blowout win, 150 rushing yards, caught a TD, forced and recovered a fumble, and blocked an extra point.

 

10. QB Clay Cecil, Highlands- Stock rising. Beat Lincoln County with his feet and his arm, 90+ yard TD run helped his case, as does the perfect 14-0 record against a pretty stout schedule.

My new short list:

It's just really hard to match what Cole has done over the course of a career, in fact, it can be argued no receiver in Kentucky history could match his career body of work.

 

I posted the question when comparing Stein and Robinson, what would either do if they switched roles and teams. In the case of Cole I would say without hesitation he would still be as dominant as he is at Somerset, plus he'd have a much better QB throwing him the ball where every catch doesn't have to be a highlight reel ( ie. taking it away from the defender on a jump ball, diving receptions, catching underthown balls, catching balls thrown well behind him)

Except that this award is not "supposed" to be a career.....I agree John Cole has been flat amazing for his career, but this yaer, there are comparatives.

Believe me Nathan is quite a freak, and is blazing fast....

The Mr. Football Trophy needs to go to Mr. Robinson's neighborhood. The numbers speek for themselves. He has led an also ran programn to the state championship[ game. Cole is second but if the Robinson kid doesn't win he has been robbed.

Lone Oak's Corey Robinson has been amazing, to be honest, they have been flat out phenomenal. But I've never seen him play, and have no idea about the competition so I really don't know what to make of it.

 

He may very well be the best player in the state, but then he may be a product of a friendly system, too.

 

It's hard to argue with Stein's numbers, and who they've came against. Impressive for anyone wearing a Shamrock jersey.

 

Dustin May is the best all-around football player I've seen, and that includes Cole, Daniel Harmon, Shawn Grimm, Clint Cashen, and many other EKY players.

 

But going by the history of this award, and the AMAZING number Robinson has put up he had earned it, imo.

After leading his team down the field to tie the game against Warren East, and passing for around 500 yards and four touchdowns (running for another) then he has to be a front runner. Oh yea, throw in the records he's absolutely destroyed it will be hard to deny him Mr. Football.

This young man has taken a program and put them on the map. The only thing he has left is to win a state championship.

State Championship or not he is still Mr. Kentucky!

Dutton had a great season as well. He also had a much better team around him and was rarely the focus of the entire defensive scheme night in and night out, as John Cole was. JMHO.
