Thanks, I will say if William ends up with 3,800 yards, 55 TD's and only 4 int's, AND a 6A state championship, it would be hard to argue with...I know what Robinson has done is statistically amazing, but how can we guage the ability of who he's gone against. Is he going to win state?

 

I am not disagreeing with you RP, but for the sake of argument when comparing Stein and Robinson you have to note the following:

 

1. Compare the supporting casts around these guys. Robinson definately doesn't have a Tim Phillips to keep defenses honest against the run, and he doesn't have receivers anywhere near the calibur that Trinity has.

 

2. What if Lone Oak wins the 4A Title and Robinson does it without missing a beat?

 

...and to support Stein:

3. Would Stein have the National Record if he were the QB at Lone Oak in the Lone Oak system?

 

4. I noted Trinity has a great HB in Phillips, what would Stein's stats be if he could pass 90% of the time ala Lone Oak?

 

Stein has put up amazing numbers and thanks to Trinity's schedule there is no question as to the validity of those numbers, but if Robinson can lead Lone Oak to a State Championship, with the lack of athletes and lineman in front of him, you have to offset the Strength of Schedule factor.

The issue on Corey Robinson is this, in my opinion. I do not feel it is a question of whether or not he wins the state title, because Lone Oak has been a consistant cellar dweller in the past. Coach Haskins and Corey Robinson has brought the program way up in class. Unfortunately, the schedule very much raises doubt as to just how good this kid really is.

 

I will say that if Lone Oak were to win the 4A championship, I would volunteer to be Corey Robinson's Mr. Football campaign manager!

Your point #2 is dead on accurate as to validating Corey Robinson's record setting season.

 

I honestly think the answer to your #3 is "yes" and at worst, "maybe". Plus, I could name several other quarterbacks who would also thrive under the same circumstances as Corey Robinson has had at Lone Oak.

 

I saw Corey Robinson in summer camps and have a great understanding of his abilities.

I definately see that, but how much of that can be blamed on the athlete? For example, say Robinson is the best QB in the state but his team's weakness that is revealed is a definitive weakness on the o-line. As a result let's assume that Warren East picks up this weakness on film and just sends the kitchen sink every play? With schools that can't draw from the depth of a bigger school such as Trinity, or doesn't have the shear talent up front, you can't really blame if a passing game was stymied as much as at Trinity. Additionally, in alot fot hese games when a team gets in over their head, the offense may still put some points on the board, but they lose by 4 or more TD's, typically the defense is whatdecides how bad they get beat.

 

Hypothetical situation:

 

Stein takes on St. X, probably Kentucky's top ranked team. Here are his numbers:

 

14-31, 225 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 2 sacks. St. X wins 24-17.

 

Robinson takes on LexCath :

 

20-44, 225 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT, 6 sacks. LexCath wins 42- 20.

 

Is there alot of difference in these hypothetical stats?

 

I know we are splitting hairs, but I think it is necessary.

 

FWIW, the numbers Stein have put up to me are MORE impressive, especially considering he hasn't had the luxury of becming familiar with his receivers in game situations like a Robinson, he has done all this stepping into the starting role for the first time.

Ryan Ball from Highlands, 3 year starter at LB, moved from RB to stong guard should be 1st team allstate lineman, and he returns punt for last 2 seasons.
