November 3, 200718 yr Well, after reading through your posts on the issue, thegooch, I've come to the conclusion that you are without a doubt a left wing liberal. I'll leave the crazy part to individual interpretation.
November 3, 200718 yr So it is acceptable to you that over 3500 babies EVERY DAY, let me repeat that, over 3 thousand 5 hundred babies, every day are killed, while we complete the plumbing in the house? Just to point out in ONE DAY a comparable number of babies are killed than Americans who have been killed in Iraq over the past years of the war. And yet, I don't see any Democrats horrified about that. EXACTLY!!:ylsuper:
November 3, 200718 yr Its acceptable Oh my ever lovin' goodness! And you don't think you're liberal!! You are sadly mistaken or horribly confused. I'm out.:scared:
November 3, 200718 yr Author What I said was more for shock value. I said it more for the fact that, I dont have all the answers. Murdering of innocent life is a horrible thing. I am not pro-choice, but I dont like the pro-life argument either.
November 3, 200718 yr The only place I see abortions as being acceptable is in a rape case, and then you can take the pill before it even get's to that stage. However even then it's tough, my best friends older brother was born because his mother was raped by some lune, I think his wife and kids are kinda happy his mom was pro life. If your gonna have sex, do it with protection, it's as simple as that. I don't think a baby's rights should be waived simply because two people acted neglegently while "acting" like adults.
November 3, 200718 yr Today there is simply to many ways to prevent a pregnacy for both the man and the woman get real people think before you have sex , think about what might happen , you just might make a little baby.
November 3, 200718 yr Perhaps, then, the prudent thing to do would be to avoid having sex outside of wedlock. What an old fashioned notion... I'm 100% PRO CHOICE... ...I just happen to think that choice should occur prior to conception, not after. I guess that makes me old fashioned too.
November 3, 200718 yr What does the Bible say? "I knew you while you were in the womb". Pro Life is God's choice and is mine. I'm also a registered Democrat. Gooch, I bet before you are on a staff at a church your views will change.
November 3, 200718 yr No offense, my friend, but that's exactly what the girl is saying. Instead of saying to her "Not an ideal situation but you're still part of the family" she sees/perceives you passing judgment instead. She's obviously wrong to have the abortion IMO but I completely get where she's coming from. Yes, I am passing judgment. We all pass judgment all of the time. The most mis-interpreted scripture is the "judge not lest you be judged" scripture. The rest of the paragraph is instructive. Scarlet letters work. Scarlet letters set some social boundaries. I can love you and also chastise you at the same time. In fact the word "discipline" comes from a root word that means "to teach." The discomfort the girl feels is from her own natural conscience as much as it is from the icy stares from her fellow church-goers. I wish more girls felt like that.

So despite knowing that the girl, irrational as she may be/probably is, will go against your wish of not having an abortion, you continue to give her icy stares on Sunday morning? That makes sense to you?
November 3, 200718 yr Author Then isnt she just staying within the social boundaries out of fear of ridicule, than anything else. We should never be pushed, or peer pressured into a decision, no matter what that decision is!!
November 3, 200718 yr MY gripe is that most people I know who claim to be "Pro-Life" also support Capital Punishment. I think if you are truly "Pro-Life", then you are for ALL life, not just some. If you support the Death Penalty you are NOT Pro-Life, you're just Anti-Abortion. And that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that. Just call it what it is.
November 3, 200718 yr I know that the foster system sometimes produces excellent conditions for children. Yet we studied in Sociology that more and more people are taking in foster children they cannot provide for, just so they can recieve more government money. Which most of the time in those situations, does not go to the children. So your solution to a flawed social welfare system is to spend more money on it? Out of wedlock births and deaths by abortion have soared because we, as a society, have rewarded people for behaving immorally. Freedom without responsibility has left us with millions of unwed mothers, millions of aborted babies, and millions of anonymous fathers behind bars. The solution to failed social welfare programs is not bigger social welfare programs.

Hopefully, you find the term "Pro-choice" equally offensive. Let's call it what it is "Pro-abortion," and while we're at it, let's call those who advocate the barbaric practice of so-call "partial birth abortion" what they are - "Pro-infanticide." There is a big difference between the slaughter of innocent babies and guilty mass murderers, so just call me "Pro-innocent life" if that floats your boat.
November 3, 200718 yr We can start a different thread about the relative life positions of the death penalty vs. abortion. I have recently changed my view on the death penalty and now oppose it, but it is NOT because of its question of valuing life. It is because of the magnitude of flaws with the criminal justice system. cshs81, now you are engagin in hyperbole. The girl is having the abortion because she is, as you say, "irrational." What bothers me is not that the majority of these women are irrational, it is that they are completely rational when they make this choice, and rationalize it to such an extent that they march down there and choose convenience over life. They get the icy stares not from the act of abortion (which we generally rarely find out about), but from the act of reckless sexual behavior, or in many cases from the casual attitude toward murder. thegooch, peer pressure and social boundaries are called mores, or social norms. They once created the basis for our society and for many of our laws. They form community. It is now considered 'enlightened' to break through social mores and norms and to challenge them. So you have people rationally arguing that women who can 'face' abortion are enlightened for murdering their fetus. We have 'enlightened' ourselves into devaluing Creation.
