Honestly I have a bigger issue with the parents who have 11 year olds that need birth control. The parents of kids that need birth control need to have there kids taken away from them. Why should we be concerned about these parents rights when they aren't acting like parents?

I think it's just wild that they actually need birth control. I don't remember sex being on the top of my list of things to do at 11 years old. Plus, when are they having sex? At school? On the bus? Where are their parents!?!??

Unreal.... the pills have to be taken daily.. yeah an 11-13 year old is gonna run a tight schedule on them. This will come back to haunt them.

Attention teachers and students...at this time all girls should report to the school nurse's office to pick up your daily perscription...If they are stepping as far as giving the "pill" they will surely be all-capable of dispensing it appropriately and on schedule.

The pill comes in a pack of 28 pills which they probably give them and has to be taken each day and is recommended to take it on time each day. If you miss doses... you might end up with a surprise in 9 months. Again, I love the fact an 11-13 is mature enough to follow that strict regimen. Also, if your taking antibiotics on top of it at anytime it can lower the effectiveness of it. Which a lot of kids that age are taking throughout the course of the year. Amazes me you would trust a girl that young with a possible life long mistake. Thanks though.

Too bad these kids don't have parents.

This is a sad reality that I do not accept. Parents should step up and take responsibility for their children and how they are spending their time. I remember my main concern at MS as far as the opposite sex was concerned was holding a hand a maybe a kiss.

I don't think many people knew what sex was in 6th grade.

I agree, it is a sad state of affairs indeed. However, it is a reality. Some communities need it more than others.

 

The younger kids are when they become sexually active, the more partners they are likely to have and the greater risk of contracting one of the many, often permanent STD's. I hope, along with the birth control, a THOROUGH counseling session teaching them about the real risks and responsibilities related to sex is done.

 

I do have to wonder....why is this the school's responsibility? Seems like the schools take on more and more in an effort to help our children. In my day, we went to school simply to learn.
