Before my oldest got to high school he always sat next to us at games with his friends. Only time we let him up was for him to try and catch a football thrown into the stands by the cheerleaders. Before this year my two youngest sons also sat next to me. Now they are both water boys so I have three boys on the sidelines. I wish my 13 year old daughter would want to walk around the stadium. Her setting there like she is dying gets on my nerves LOL. Boys are so much easier to raise.:lol:

I would find their parents and relay that the "stadium" is not a playground OR daycare...watch their children or get ejected.

This is a good thread subject that drives me nuts at most of the games I attend.....I have to say Dunbar did a good job of keeping kids a safe distance away from the playing field on Friday, but this is a problem at almost every game....

What should be done about out of control children at high school football games and the parents that allow them to run around unsupervised? This small child was running around LexCath's field and treating the soccer goals like a Jungle Jim at the recent Highlands/LexCath football game:

Unless they are used to stop PATs from going into the stands I don't understand what they are.

It's funny that you bring this up this week. I was just watching an unsolved mysteries show and they were talking about a family at a little league baseball game. I believe it was 5th and 6th graders. A parent was sitting in the stands while her son was playing and her younger daughter wanted to go over to the play ground that was in the perameters of the field. Just off to the side. It was late, around 10 o'clock and the mom wasn't sure but let her go anyway with about 4 of her friends. Well needless to say the girl has not been seen since. The friends were busy and playing and the next thing you know the girl is missing. Sad story but could happen anywhere. This happened in a small community where everyone knows everyone and no one would ever think something like this could happen. My boys never left me until they had a cell phone. And even then when we were at home games they were in my sight. To the point where I would call them and tell them to put their coat on or pick up the sweatshirt they left in the stands. I could see that much. Away games was a different story. I never liked them wondering at away games.

The rumor I heard was that little kid was by far the best athlete playing pick up football in the end zone. One minute he was scoring a touchdown and the next minute he was all tangled up in a blue net...

I can remember as a kid that an occasional two hand touch football would break out behind one endzone. But I also remember that I had a parent at the game also. When the world seemed safer parents were always with their kid. Now in this day and time where kids are being stalked by predators, Parents don't mind to drop off their kids at a football game or Mall and let them walk around completely unsupervised.

 

I would never drop off my kids I don't care how embarrassed they may get with me there around their friends. They are my responsibility not the schools during an after school event or even Mall personnel.

You always see little kids playing football behind the endzone at Highlands games and Cov Cath games. But it seems there's always at least one parent hanging around. That's not to say someone couldn't come along and take a child away.

I thought a kid at a Highlands game would have the playbook in hand, studying.

I agree that the kids are in danger when left alone and I agree that schools need to develop a policy regarding unsupervised children.

I think the policy would be met with much resistance from parents who come to watch the game and are all too happy to let the younger brother run off some energy playing pick-up football games behind the end zone or over on the practice field, or wherever.

I watched a game a few weeks ago where an administrator confiscated a football from one of the "pick up games" and it wasn't 5 minutes until the irate parent marched over and demanded the ball, gave it back to the kid and blasted the administrator for taking it in the first place...

It's a different world than I grew up in. My dad would have wore me out - and told the administrator to use the ball for a PE class.

I feel the same way about schools who let all the kids shoot around during half-time of the varsity game. It's chaos - and asking for a lawsuit...
