I worked for a type of a juvenile detention facility and the main reason the kids were at this placements were the lack of supervision from their parents, IMO.

At Ashland there are alot of kids they just come to socialize or start trouble. I took my kids to a football game this year and my 4 year old got ran over by teenagers goofing off near the restrooms.

What should be done about out of control children at high school football games and the parents that allow them to run around unsupervised? This small child was running around LexCath's field and treating the soccer goals like a Jungle Jim at the recent Highlands/LexCath football game:

Seriously my dad used to make me sit with him. As I got a little older we played football away from the field close to the bleachers. There was a little kid a couple of weeks ago that ran our in front of the big banner the cheerleaders made. The football kids couldn't see him and pretty much trampled him. He was really lucky that he didn't get hurt real bad just more scared than anything. A lot of parents find any possible way they can to dump their kids off so they don't have to watch them! That's one of the biggest problems with our society IMO! I was lucky, my dad helped me learn the game while I was young instead of letting me run wild.

To start with, I do not think that a parent should ever drop their child off at a football game and leave, until the child is at least in high school. And I think that parents should keep an eye on their children, at least from a distance. And I think that children should be a safe distance from the playing field at football games.

 

With all the above being said, I think that kids should have fun and be able to play at the football game. Some of the best football games that I have seen, have been behind the endzone, being played by some third-fifth graders. Some of these kids act like they are playing in the superbowl.

 

And I have to say that, when I go to a game, I like the atmosphere: The stands full, people standing around playing armchair quarterback, the smell of the grill, the band playing, the cheerleaders cheering, and yes the young future high school football players playing football behind the endzone. Maybe I am wrong, or maybe I am a little irresponsible, but I thank that these kids playing sandlot football at the varsity games add to the atmosphere. I have been to games where those kids were the center of the conversation. The "real game" was out of hand, and the victory secured, and the fan's attention was directed to the sandlot game.

This drives me crazy. I have this happen in another part of my job. :irked::irked::irked: I have found children as young as 3 wondering around by themselves. :irked: When we locate have located the parent(s) they have blamed the kid. :rolleyes:

Actually, I'm a little disappointed in you Guru. I mean, you are law enforcement right? You let this kid wonder around for hours by himself and had zero intentions on helping the kid find his parents. Poor little guy. I think I saw him wondering around the parking lot after the game...

Seriously, schools need to visit some sort of policies regarding this. Too many parents drop their kids off at games (basketball and soccer also) and pick them up two hours later.

 

Schools need to implement a minimum age for kids to come unsupervised and an ejection policy. If they are running around, playing nerf football just outside the end zone, throwing rocks at the concession stand, rolling down a big hill by the stands, etc., they need to be taken to their parents and told the next time it happens, they aren't welcome back. If their parents aren't there, ban them from future games.

 

You make an example out of a few kids and word travels fast. I know I've heard several places make an announcement in the pregame to the effect of "We are not your child's babysitters. Please keep an eye on them so that everyone can enjoy the game."

 

Great thread subject. Something needs to be done because the problem is getting worse.

 

What really will happen is that the parents will go throughout the community telling half-truths on what happened and portraying the school as some sort of anti-kid place. Those parents who want a reason to talk about the school, will latch on it and rail on the AD, principal, coach, school, whatever they need.

 

We might even see BGP threads on how horrible it is how kids are treated at (fill-in-the-blank) school.

The other thing that occurs is that for those parents who are NOT letting their kid run around, they become a unofficial babysitter. Happened to my wife all the time.

 

Our child could not run around unsupervised so all the kids that were allowed to run around hung out around my wife with my son. She would end up with 4-6 kids every game.

I would find their parents and relay that the "stadium" is not a playground OR daycare...watch their children or get ejected.

Yes I have been there and done that . It is a shame that parents do that to their children..
