I think that the parents think just because they are at a high school activity that it is all parents who are there so no on would hurt the child. DON"T they think they anyone can buy a ticket and come in to the ballgame.

Actually, I'm a little disappointed in you Guru. I mean, you are law enforcement right? You let this kid wonder around for hours by himself and had zero intentions on helping the kid find his parents. Poor little guy. I think I saw him wondering around the parking lot after the game...

 

I did make an effort and found the guilty parent. However, the guilty party was more interested in talking about running up the score on LexCath as a payback for the playoff game a couple of years ago than he was about his stranded son.

I see it all the time. There is going to be a time that one gets hit by a 225 lbs player being tackled or running out of bounds before something is done.

 

LexCath was driving towards the far end zone as the half was coming to a close. There were some 'Lil Knights that were getting ready to go out at halftime that decided to sit INSIDE the corner of the end zone, right next to the pylon. Some adults made sure they scooted back but that would've been ugly.

 

Also, isn't this the first year the KHSAA implemented a rule that states anyone, that's a spectator, admin, media...etc. that's struck and hurt inside of a dotted line 3 yards from the end lines. Would not be covered under the KHSAA's insurance policy? Just wondering, cause I haven't seen a line on a bunch of fields...

To start with, I do not think that a parent should ever drop their child off at a football game and leave, until the child is at least in high school. And I think that parents should keep an eye on their children, at least from a distance. And I think that children should be a safe distance from the playing field at football games.

 

With all the above being said, I think that kids should have fun and be able to play at the football game. Some of the best football games that I have seen, have been behind the endzone, being played by some third-fifth graders. Some of these kids act like they are playing in the superbowl.

 

And I have to say that, when I go to a game, I like the atmosphere: The stands full, people standing around playing armchair quarterback, the smell of the grill, the band playing, the cheerleaders cheering, and yes the young future high school football players playing football behind the endzone. Maybe I am wrong, or maybe I am a little irresponsible, but I thank that these kids playing sandlot football at the varsity games add to the atmosphere. I have been to games where those kids were the center of the conversation. The "real game" was out of hand, and the victory secured, and the fan's attention was directed to the sandlot game.

 

When I worked HS games Parents did this , to children as young as 1st grade and sometimes they would be late picking them up. So sad. ! !:cry:

Years ago, I can recall a friend of mine saying something to me that has always stuck in my mind and everytime I think about it, I still chuckle. At the time we were probably in middle school, 12 or 13 years old and he wanted me to go to a high school football game with him and his parents.

 

He looked at me and said, "Hey, you wanna go to the football game with me? We can walk around and hit little kids on the head!"

 

......this coming from the same kid that when my mom asked him what he would like to eat, he said, 'Just fix a bunch of stuff and I will pick out what I want."

At some basketball games I've seen kids run along the sidelines and caused problems, they could've gotton theirselves hurt and upstruck the view of the game for others. Kids take a seat during the game that's what end of periods and halftime is for to "run to the bathroom" are for, going outside to talk jibber-jabber to your best friend can be done in the bleachers or at halftime would be best.
