November 15, 200718 yr Rember these names from the Pitino school of recruiting big men for a while. Andre Riddick, Timberlake, Martinez, Prickett. That is one area Pitino had problems with also while at UK. WE just have to start developing what we have.
November 15, 200718 yr Big men are definitely not as abundant as guards and swingmen...which means getting on these guys early and establishing a relationship might play a much bigger role. Couple that with Billy G at UK being an unknown at this point...it may just take some time for him to establish relationships, recruiting ties, himself at UK, etc. Also, the fact that PP is there now as a freshman, may factor in to some guys thinking. Who knows? I'm not trying to make excuses...just thinking out loud about possible reasons for it. Hopefully, as Billy G gets established at UK, his recruiting will improve. If Patterson has success at UK, then that might be a factor in other guys deciding to come there later.

But most of the credit for Patterson being here goes to Tubby. Patterson pretty much was going to come here, until Tubby left. And Billy G. just did a good job at bringing Patterson back on board after Tubby had left. So he really hasn't really been able to bring in a big guy on his own to UK yet....
November 15, 200718 yr Singleton wouldn't have been the answer in the post, but he absolutely would have relieved enough pressure on Patterson to give them time to find the answer. The fact is that Gardner Webb's defensive plan was to pack it in and dare a big not named Patrick Patterson to shoot from the high post. Singleton could have nullified that strategy. I think Darius Miller can make a jump shot from the foul line.I've seen him do it a lot.:ylsuper:
November 15, 200718 yr Miller wouldn't matter to that strategy, because as a 3 he would be guarded by a perimeter player. (I know that Singleton is more of a 3 than a 4, but at Kentucky he'd be starting at the 4.)
November 15, 200718 yr Not sure that washes. Why doesn't it. I am sure most all the other coaches have been on a lot of these big men longer then BCG. Players that Billy is recruiting now are not the same as when he was A&M. He said himself that recruiting at UK is different from A&M. He said he gets in the door with the UK name where he did not get in with the A&M name. I think having some of those players even listing UK is an accomplishment for BCG. I don't think Billy is a proven coach yet in a lot of players eyes. Yes he may have turned some teams around, but now he has to do it on a much larger level and better competition. I have faith he will get it done. I am not a UK fan that thinks he is going to turn the program around over night. It is going to take a few seasons, JMO. I do think the title of this thread is correct in saying he is desperate for post help. We have seen the Cats play 4 game now and it is very evident that he needs it. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
