I can't get into it with you on BGP but Americans and our GOVT need to take a long hard look at things. If not I think in the next 25 years within our own states there are going to be non american territories. I have no problem with diversity but I am not sure where things are going and if its about diversity to some.

If that flag was within the greater Cincy area it would not be standing, at least half of it.

TTC - I'm guessing the veterans in my family who have served during a war would say what most say "I fight to protect the freedoms at home." Don't those freedoms include expression? Don't laws usually come about in order to fix a problem or situation? All I'm asking is why have a law over a beautiful symbol of freedom? I think if you take a step back and think about the answer to the question you told me to ask, you'd realize that having a law goes against the answer you and I get from our soldiers.

 

CCH5432 - The US flag, unlike most other country's flags, is a beautiful symbol of freedom. Are you saying we should require legal non-citizens to fly the US flag? Are you saying citizens should be legally bound to fly the flag?

 

I love the flag and what it stands for. I love it so much I could never force anyone to fly it in any situation should they not want to. It would actually be a disgrace to the flag itself and to the men and women who have fought for it. That would be 100% opposite of why I love it and why the soldiers fought for me.

 

No, we should requir no one to fly the US flag. However, if you are going to fly the flag then the proper protocol should be observed. The owner in question was under no obligation to fly the US flag. However if he chose to fly it then he should have flown it on top--if not then he should have flown only the Mexican flag or none at all. Quite simply if he wishes to reside in the US and he is indeed a legal non-citizen then it is encumbent upon him to learn the rules and laws or our United States. He can no more plead ignorance to this rule than he could to a traffic citation--(as Smilin' Jack Jack Ross said in A Few Good Men) "Those are the facts, and they are undisputable." Ignorance of the law is no excuse. .

I, like many other people on here had no idea that the U.S. flag had to be flown above all others and I would that there's a 99.9% chance that the owner also had no idea. The guy definitely took the dramatic path to get the flag down and was complete overkill imo. The situation could have been easily resolved by a levelheaded person without breaking more laws in the process. I understand and don't blame him for feeling the way he does but what he did was pretty hypocritical.

I agree and flying the US flag upside down is a sign of distress and the utmost disrespect. If they want to fly them seperately on two poles the correct way it would be fine. This is a continuation of my response on post 33. Nobody should ever fly our flag upside down. That flag would/should be taken down.

I don't understand how a Mexican comes in the United States, (illegally more than likely) disrepects Old Glory like that, and then when a proud American takes action against it, he gets condemned for it. Unbelievable.

 

Who cares if that wasn't the "most civil" way to get the flag down? Do you think Ulysses S. Grant went down to Virginia and asked Robert E. Lee to take down his Confederate battle flags? No, he when and fought for what he thought was right and NOW is the time for us as American citizens to start fighting for what's right and take our country back before it's too late. I don't know about yall but I don't wanna live in the "United States of Mexico" so if I ever come across a situation like this you darn well better believe I'm gonna take action against it.

 

There's no respect, that's what's wrong with our country these days. No respect for authority, no respect for parents or teachers and no respect for what our Founding Father's laid out for us.

I knew that one was coming. However, in CM's argument, he invoked a Civil War situation as supporting evidence. I figured I missed the declaration.

As I said previously, I understand the extreme passion behind this situation.

 

However, as I've also said, we seem to be wanting to disregard the rights of anyone who doesn't "fall in line" or do what we consider to be respectful. We all wish for utopia and wish people would show respect to the flag and not show dissent in any form or fashion. However, out of the other side of our mouth we love to talk about our great country and the freedoms that come with it.

 

If you can't handle the minority view then IMO don't be talking about the country's freedoms.

Back in the day when that was placed under the Statue of Liberty, immigrants were coming into the US legally. Also the LEAGAL immigrants knew that the only way to be successful in the United States was to learn the language and respect our customs. Today the ILLEGAL immigrants don’t think they need to know the language and they want us to change our customs and traditions so as not to offend them. People are fed up because the authorities ignore the problem so they take matters into their own hands. If the Federal Government doesn’t do something about protecting our borders from ILLEAGAL immigrants we may have a “mini” Civil War on our hands.

The problem is that we publicly give more credence to the minority view then the majority. Would you venture a guess as to how many 'legal' mexican immigrants would be willing to fly the Mexican flag over the American flag?
