Where is the consistency in the message of the US that we all espouse when we make laws that say you MUST fly the flag above others? If I can say our country stinks and we're oppressors and we're evil and ..... why do I then not have the right to fly my flag a certain way? I can say we suck and not get arrested but I can't fly another country's flag higher than the US?

Just to clear this up... there is NO LAW that says you have to fly the American flag above all others. In fact, 4 U.S.C. Sec 7(g) says that the flags of sovereign nations must be flown on one pole per flag; they must be approximately the same size; and they must fly at the same level. No country's flag is to be flown above another's during peacetime.

cshs81, this country is full of inconsistency as is every country in the world; we certainly don't lead the world in that. Your point is pointless, really. I repeat for you, it isn't patriotic, if you want to be an American, what's the point of flying your old countries flag, especially over the American flag? If you want to come here to live, do you not want to be an American? What would the point be in the first place other than to stir up trouble for yourself? Its actions like this that causes friction between some immigrants and natural born citizens. I know people like to champion the cause of the "little guy", but this is a case that just makes you look foolish if you do IMO.

Absolutely I feel the same way. No flag should fly above the American flag in this country, and yes they should cut it down IMO.

However, I have had enough dealings with "people" on this issue that I know that is how many believe. "We" don't like people that are different, who speak differently, look different and have different customs. "We" definitely don't like them if they are poor. Yet, for the most part, only poor Mexicans are coming to the country illegally. Additionally, we don't want to admit that our system makes it all but impossible for a poor Mexican to gain legal citizenship. Why? They don't have the money to start the process.

True blue (and gold), there is bigotry everywhere, toward me, you and everyone else in this world. It's a sad fact of life. It's not always about race either. It can be toward people that are fat, nerds, ugly, short, too tall, religion, gender, sexual orientation, social status and on and on and on.

I disagree with the first part of your post. I know plenty of hispanics, just not any that have entered the country legally in the past 20 years. I know those whose family, like mine, have been here for a century or longer and those that are illegal. I wish that we could find some statistics on it.

Many, many people, including me, believe that this country faces a severe labor shortage in the coming decades and that we need most of the people who are immigrating from Mexico to fill those positions. As much as we need the hard working Mexican immigrants pouring across our borders, we do not need the vermin who are also entering the country, killing American citizens, joining criminal gangs, and filling our prisons beyond capacity. We need to screen the people who want to come here and we need to fix the system so that it can process more applicants for legal immigration more efficiently.

 

Most people who advocate controlling our borders and fixing a broken legal immigration system have absolutely nothing but respect for honest, hard working Mexican immigrants. Most of us do not blame the illegal immigrants for the manner in which they arrived, but we are angry at corrupt and incompetent politicians who created the current immigration mess.

 

Any large group contains a few racists, but the demagogues in office who paint everybody who advocates secure borders and legal immigration with the broad brush of bigotry should be deported along with the illegal aliens being released every day from our jails and prisons. (Okay, that may be a little extreme, but I am in favor of prosecuting elected officials for refusing to enforce existing immigration laws.)

Of course, they don't track their poverty status in their native state. The World Bank or the U.N. might have some sort of data on that, but I'm sure it would be unreliable to do non-reporting.
