When starting to compare what seniors have done at other levels against other teams can sometimes be like comparing apples and oranges--especially at schools other than St X where more underclassmen often play varsity. It may have some bearing, but it may not carry a lot of weight to try to determine the varsity outcome. Zoeller is playing very well now after getting off to a slow start. I have not seen Stein play, but I have heard good things about him. They are also two different types of quarterbacks (from what I have heard about Stein) playing in two different types of systems. I do hope, though, that the St. X frosh can bring home a win.

Please remember that these are High School kids that read or hear about the things written on this site. I understand the heat of this rivalry just as much as the next guy/gal but I firmly believe it is possible to post your thoughts without opening the door for criticism of teenagers. IMO there is enough positive information about each team, its players, its tradition and coaches to post about without singling out individuals in a negative light. If you have to point out a weakness of your opponent to emphasize your point, please do it on a team basis e.g. Team A's run defense or Team B's special teams. While I have enjoyed being a BGP member for a few years now, the recurring practice of calling out HS age kids has been a tremendous sore spot of mine.

Back to thread topic: Moreso than in recent years, I expect this to be a true battle to the end. Here's to an injury-free game and hopefully a Tiger victory. After sitting thru the misery of the UL game Saturday, I am looking forward to watching some quality football at Papa John's.

Good point about not singling out the kids by name. Understandable in this rivalry - but not necessary. I also agree about both perhaps more evenly matched this year (at least in all the pre-game hype). But as we all know...doesnt mean much in THIS ONE....................... GO ROCKS :D :D

Very intersting game this year... X is much better than '06. I do not think at this point T is as good as '06. Last year was/would've continued to be a woodshed trip, but that was last year. Things are far more balanced this time around. The game experience of Ben Z will help X early. The foot of T's "Z" could be huge and ultimately the difference. Still feeding data into the crystal ball so the final score is still fuzzy.

I have a strong feeling that these 2 teams will meet again in the play-offs. This game is for pride only and both teams will be looking to see what works and what does not. I would be surprised if a lot of points are scored unless one team has a meltdown.

Lets check this out like they do on Sunday's...

Running game => Both teams emphasize the run. Maybe a bit more with X. T has an outstanding back in Phillips. With the way X's qb has been running of late, all things considered, this is pretty tight. Slight Edge => X

Passing Game => No question the Rocks have a distinct advantage here. Probably the biggest mismatch in all categories (second mismatch is specialty teams, more about this later). Advantage => T

Defense against the Run => Both have very good defenses and much can be said about each side. The T defensive line controlled the 10 minute game of 2006. The X defensive line is considerably quicker to the ball this season. they have done a pretty good job so far... Im calling it EVEN

Defense against the Pass => T has the big game experience against Cincy St. X and this shoud pay dividens against the Tigers. With the Tigers not passing that much, really a non factor for most of the game. The X defense against the pass has be ok, yet needs to step up another notch against the T passing game or this could turn into a track meet after the catch kinda game..... Slight Edge => T

Specialty Teams => X started the year showing improvment in this area yet has fallen apart last week on the punt team. Two snapps were high enough that the punter had to give an all out jump just to catch the ball. Another skipped to the punter and in the 2nd half, the ball went completly over the punters head.... Well I dont need to tell you what that means or will do for a teams chances of winning this game.... None of the X kick offs last week went into the endzone.... Advantage => T

Bottom Line = > I really think that X has a better team this year compared to last year, primarly on defensive speed. QB showings some improvment. Duece has had a very solid start yet needs to step to the plate in this big game. T has shown that it has reloaded as usual. Stein is working his way to all state status with his passing and yards. Phillips is a D1 tallent that only needs a crack of daylight. Trinity has to be the favorite, two time defending champ and winner of last years game in storming fashion. Its Trinity's to lose, they are the top dog till someone knocks em off. So far, after what I have seen this year, Not convinced the Tigers are ready to do so. Hope Im wrong.... GO Tigers...

Riverside, yet you voted that the Tigers win a close one in the poll...

Yes - Im hoping we can rise to the occasion. But when I look at the areas of the game I see we need to step it up a bit. I know we can do it, its just a matter of execution and mental state. Going to check out the Sophmore Varsity this afternoon.....

My crystal ball is a bit cloudy as well. This is the first time in about a dozen years that I have not seen T play a game before the X game so I don't know what to expect. Usually I have a pretty good feel for how they will match up but not this year. Just going to have to wait and see. So you won't get a predicted score from me this year.

I hope St X is as good as LIT and Cantrall says, because given that Male and the rest of 6A seem way down, Saint X is likely the only thing standing between Trinity and title number 18... and from a Highlands fan's perspective, Trinity hanging steady at 17 titles for a year or two (or ten) wouldn't be such a bad thing!

Look for St.X to stick to the 4-3 and get pressure on Will. Also this is easily the best DB's T will have faced. I say they get a pick or 2. I look for a low scoring affair with mistakes the difference maker. St.X simply can not continue to make the mistakes in the kicking game and expect to win. Another point after missed last week and the long snapping has to improve.

Do you really believe they are EASILLY better the the group from Cincinnati that Trinity played?

With all the amazing talent and blazing speed that Trinity has, I just can't see how this game stays close. JMO

I would beg to differ.

Here is the apple to apple comparison from St X's freshmen year to St X senior year versus their counterparts.

Lexington Catholic Freshmen game 36-6 St X Varsity game this year 41-9 X

Male Freshmen game 46-0 St X. Varsity game this year 42-6 X

Manual Freshmen game 14-8 OT Varsity game this year 21-14 X

Trinity Freshmen game 21-14 St X Varsity ?

3 years ago, T kicker misses FG to give ball back to X with time to score. Instead of going to overtime, T tries to hit home run with pass.

T WR fumbles to give ball back to X offense who scores 2 td's in last 3 minutes to pull out win. I predict a very tight game with the winner scoring 21.
