Lets check this out like they do on Sunday's...

Running game => Both teams emphasize the run. Maybe a bit more with X. T has an outstanding back in Phillips. With the way X's qb has been running of late, all things considered, this is pretty tight. Slight Edge => X

Passing Game => No question the Rocks have a distinct advantage here. Probably the biggest mismatch in all categories (second mismatch is specialty teams, more about this later). Advantage => T

Defense against the Run => Both have very good defenses and much can be said about each side. The T defensive line controlled the 10 minute game of 2006. The X defensive line is considerably quicker to the ball this season. they have done a pretty good job so far... Im calling it EVEN

Defense against the Pass => T has the big game experience against Cincy St. X and this shoud pay dividens against the Tigers. With the Tigers not passing that much, really a non factor for most of the game. The X defense against the pass has be ok, yet needs to step up another notch against the T passing game or this could turn into a track meet after the catch kinda game..... Slight Edge => T

Specialty Teams => X started the year showing improvment in this area yet has fallen apart last week on the punt team. Two snapps were high enough that the punter had to give an all out jump just to catch the ball. Another skipped to the punter and in the 2nd half, the ball went completly over the punters head.... Well I dont need to tell you what that means or will do for a teams chances of winning this game.... None of the X kick offs last week went into the endzone.... Advantage => T

Bottom Line = > I really think that X has a better team this year compared to last year, primarly on defensive speed. QB showings some improvment. Duece has had a very solid start yet needs to step to the plate in this big game. T has shown that it has reloaded as usual. Stein is working his way to all state status with his passing and yards. Phillips is a D1 tallent that only needs a crack of daylight. Trinity has to be the favorite, two time defending champ and winner of last years game in storming fashion. Its Trinity's to lose, they are the top dog till someone knocks em off. So far, after what I have seen this year, Not convinced the Tigers are ready to do so. Hope Im wrong.... GO Tigers...

Rocks 23

Tigers 17

How do you give nearly every edge to Trinity, but still say X has the better team?

EDIT: Nevermind, I re-read your statement at the end and I misunderstood it.

Trinity Freshmen game 21-14 St X Varsity ?

3 years ago, T kicker misses FG to give ball back to X with time to score. Instead of going to overtime, T tries to hit home run with pass.

T WR fumbles to give ball back to X offense who scores 2 td's in last 3 minutes to pull out win. I predict a very tight game with the winner scoring 21.

That's not how the game went...yes we fumbled but it was a run play with Donovan Sims....X recovered, then scored 2 TD's with Rahyven Smith...

This morning's CJ quoted from a national high school poll (Rivals?) placing Trinity thirtysomething and X fortysomething. Trinity has gained the edge in the Litratings, but it is close. A statewide poll, also cited in this morning's CJ, has X 1st and T 2nd.

I think we all know the Rocks have to be the favored regardless of LIT or national polls. I feel that the Tigers must stop the run and not be put in third and long to have a solid chance to win.

I have not seen Trinity but have been very impressed with our team speed on the defensive side. We must pressure Stein and make it tought for him to see down field.

We did run a few of the similiar formations and passing plays against Manual that helped us in the win big a few years ago. I am sure how effective they will be this time but can make it interesting.

Go Tigers

Anyone have the status on the Freshman teams, records, key players etc?? I believe they play at X on Thursday @ 5:30 pm.

Last I knew Trinity was 1-3 with close losses to Boyle, Lex Cath and 2 TD loss to Moeller. Extra point misses cost the Rocks against Boyle and Lex Cath. They pounded Butler. Kragthorpe and Nix seem to be a potent pass and catch combo. T also has a stud RB who has been coming off an injury. I expect he'll be healthy this Thursday.

X greenies are 4-1 with an opening game loss to Moeller 28-7. Defense gave up two long passes on broken coverages and 2 big runs that made the difference. They are much improved since Moeller, cruising past Lex Cath, Oldham, Male and Manual. On offense, Jay Hayden, Devontae Beech and Lamont Mcmurray have all proved to be effective runners. Beech reminds me of a mini Jerome Bettis at about 215 Lbs. The passing game continues to improve. Ryan Leonhardt is getting most of the reps at QB and has shown a strong arm and quick feet. The receivers need to step it up, still dropping balls and not finishing routes. On defense, Jake Bickel plays strong at the mike spot. Spalding and Albanese play well at the outside LB spots. Secondary is good but gets even better if Daylen Hall can get his hamstring healthy.

Throw the records out the window, this will be a street brawl. X by a PAT, 20-19

The RB fumbled ( stripped ) when you guys had the 14-7 lead. The WR fumbled after we tied it. Whatever happened to Sims? That was a big crowd. I think you'll see the same huge crowd on Thursday and if the weather stays nice, a record crowd on Friday.

This game never had a 14 - 7 score. It was 20 - 0 at the half.
