Yeah you said its just a matter of blockers blocking, runners running, and passers passing. And well no duh, if that is the case then you could say that every single system should work for any type of team, because as long as all the players do just that then any system should work. However that is not the case at all though because some systems though just dont work well for players, and make it harder for them to do those things, and maybe this system does fit these players that good...

I think this is just a down year for covcath football in terms of talent and depth. It happens. They will be better by year end, however.

So all coaches change their offensive philosophy every season? I must have missed that .

So tell me what system you put in with a rookie line, receivers who are inconsistent, no team speed, no power running game and a rookie qb.

If Rodenberg knew he had this kind of talent returning why would he make a schedule like this.

Yes good coaches do if it requires that to keep being successful...

When was the last time NewCath beat CovCath?

When was the last time NewCath beat CovCath?
About 3:00 this afternoon :D :D . I asked the same question in post 9 and no one has stepped up to the plate as of yet . Maybe if a red letter man asks it we will get an answer .

Congrats to NCC. Iin one day I found myself wanting NCC and Colerain to win.

:D :D :D

They didn't resume the series until 2001 and that was because the Beechwood vs. Covcath game was "advised" to take a two year break because of extra "stuff". So Covcath added NewCath and Beechwood added Highlands for two years. CovCath won those two games.

Then they also played in 2005 and 2006 with CovCath winning those two also.

Before that the last game was most likely in the mid to late 80s? I think they still played when NewCath was in 2A and played in the three straight finals. I don't know when the last win occurred. I think NewCath leads the overall series 15-12.

Listening to the game, I'd say to try some quick hitting type plays; not the power running/sweeps that kept losing ground all day?? Buckley was a huge loss, especially since it sounds like they planned to "ride" him early on; while they settled on a QB and the line gained some experience. They were having some success with the short passing game it sounded like, but kept trying the same old power running which apparently had little chance of success due to "O" line issues??

They really sound somewhat in disarray, especially on the offensive side of the ball; and may need some personnel moves on the O-line, like their announcers were commenting. The "D" handed them the ball in great field position several times, but they could do nothing with it when it was still very much a game. Why did Coach B go away from Wehry so quickly this year, after only one quarter of action vs. a very tough LaSalle team?? He was #2 all last season, and its not like his replacement is lighting it up--7 garbage points in 7 quarters, including a shutout vs. against a much smaller school that they've dominated lately?? Sounds kinda hasty to me?? Could be a long year in Colonel-Land, and Coach R. certainly did the new coach no favors with this schedule in what figured to be a rebuilding year??

Looked on the KHSAA web site and since 1998 NCC has not beaten CovCath.... until this year of course

So to answer your question, I don't know, or remember the last time NCC beat CovCath... Now Newport Catholic, I remember them beating CovCath but not NCC..... :D

Wehry was #2 last year due to the actual #2 recovering from elbow surgery. I attended the game this afternoon, and I do believe the QB youre trying to downplay had a pretty significant amount of passing yards. And I would not call the 7 he scored at Nippert last Saturday, "garbage" either. I think the problem here lies with a weak O line, and play calls. The play calling this afternoon was poor at best. How many running plays do we run before it hits us we're in negative yardage???

Name 5 that you've seen change their system.

Great defensive game for the Breds, the Colonels I belive had only 5 or 6 firstdowns the entire game!

Way to go Breds!!!!

:p  :D :sssh:   :thumb:

Let me be clear: the above is not me being critical of the offensive talent. You can win with all of the above but execution is paramount.

yes and execution seems to be the problem as of right now. It's hard to execute much however with the line in the shape it is...

That should not be a surprise. Last year's line took a while to get going as well. Fortunately, they had a lot of talent offensively that could score while the line was figuring it out. I have no doubt this line will get better with experience.
