By the way, no better way to remember the one year anniversary of the passing of Quinn than to end the week with a Bluebird victory...'Win for Quinn'

He's remembered everyday, but yes this is a special week and what a way to honor him by beginning our season with a win.:thumb:

My schedule shows the game at 7:00. And my guess until someone official says to the contrary it stays at 7:00.

Enqiurer had it listed at 7:30 sorry. 7 will be even hotter

So Friday's game is at 8:30?

No. I was just wondering if the game would started later because of the heat.

Man, you had me all out of wack.:bunny:

It's the special teams that worry me........Punt return in particular. But this will get better as they gain experience as to when and when NOT to try and catch the ball. Game awareness of score, time of game, how ball is kicked all need to be "processed" prior to deciding to make the catch or yell "Peter".

Will the Birds have their newfound starting Guard (Ryan Ball) back there returning punts this year?

It would really suprise me if they did. Wouldn't that be cool though? I think they have been putting Bathiany and Collinsworth back there during most of the returns, but then again, that has been quite problematic.

Ok, since everyone's had a night to sleep on this.....care to expand why you think this to be the case?

I may not have the best memory, but after the second loss to Cov. Cath. last year alot of the Bluebird faithful were questioning the coaching. Now a fresh season with a ton of talent and we have the second coming of Vince Lombardi. Tell me, was Cov. more talented last year or better coached.

More talented. What does Cov Cath's talent or coaching have to do with Ryle's?

Well, keep in mind there are several different aspects of coaching. A coach can be a great motivator but not be the best X's and O's guy, and vice versa. Rarely at the high school level does one find a coach who excels in EVERY aspect. I remember that after last season, people were questioning some of the decisions regarding playcalling and how HHS had structured their offensive gameplan for the CCH rematch. I don't think anyone would question that last year's HHS team had a lot of heart and good work ethic, but was a little short on raw physical talent (compared with previous HHS squads). CCH had a great team last year... well-coached and talented. HHS nearly beat them in the first game, and the second game was not too close, but was by no means a blowout. It would have been hard for HHS to have gotten past CCH last year, period.

Taking a look at Dale's overall W-L record against CCH, it's obvious that he's gotten his boys prepared and ready for that matchup much more often than not.

Sure people questioned the coaching. Natural thing to do right? But I wouldn't give up the HHS staff for any other. There's a reason why they keep winning. Yes, talent has a lot to do with it, but it takes the "BEST" coaching to instill their philosophies onto those talents that brings them to the top. Keep reaching, you might get there someday.

I've seen a lot of talented teams go nowhere from day one each and every season for a lot of years now, Highlands was never one of them. Talent gets you nowhere without good coaching.
...mkay...

He doesnt have 14,200 posts, and not know what he's talking about!!!

Also, I'd like to add that HHS' tradition of football excellence and the demanding nature of its fans are not unrelated issues. Anytime HHS doesn't meet expectations (which usually means at least a regional title) the fan base starts raising questions. True, too much of this can be counterproductive, but a healthy dose of this (which is how I would classify the situation in Ft. Thomas) keeps everyone (players AND coaches) focused on continued success and learning from past mistakes.

In football (as in anything competitive), complacency kills. Highlands has worked for decades to make sure it doesn't become a case in point of this hard rule.
