Preseason Top 25

This is a very good list. I saw 15 of these 25 teams play this summer.

Scott County and Lexington Catholic were clearly the best two teams I saw this summer.

That is an awful lot of teams to have ranked ahead of PRP, but I didnt see PRP this past summer. Mason County might be the 2nd best team and maybe the best. As for Bryan station being rated that high, I thougt they lost a lot of good players last year, about 3 or 4 starters and I think that is a little high to have Hazard and South Laurel. Overall a pretty good list though, just a couple observations I had

Please someone tell me how Lex Cath can be ranked in the top 5. There not even the best team in Lexington. I would say they're the 5th best team in the region behind SC, BS, HC, MC.

Novosel is not even the best player in the city so why does that make Catholic a legitiment top three team in the state??????

Nathan Novosel, Taylor Stewart, and Jordan Smart are all being recruited or hold offers from Division I schools. Throw in V. Sanford transferring in, along with some veteran role players and I fully understand a case being made for them to be in the state's top three teams for sure!

They are at best the #3 team in the 13th region IMO. Cumberland and Corbin are way ahead of them and Id say Pineville is too.
If South wants to repeat in the 13th, they will have to fine a way to win against Cumberland and Corbin. Both Cumberland and Corbin will be very strong this year and South will be in danger of not playing in the region finals for the first time since 2002.
I think the top 3 has a bit of a shake up now..

Scott County is still loaded.

This may move SC to about 5th. I you remember last year SC lost their top returning scorer and rebounder before the season started.

However, when you see a kid on the way to ruining a promising future, who cares about rankings.

Scott County is still loaded.
They are still good, but I dont think I would go as far as to say they would still be loaded without Mackey. I am however not saying Mackey is guilty and that he will not play this year, just that they would drop off quite a bit if he is not there.

I think it is going to be a great year to watch high school basketball. There are a ton of talented players. Kentucky is going to be home to a lot of college bball players the next few years.

Teams like LexCath, Scott Co, Ballard, Mason Co, Madison Central, J-Town are all going to be very talented and fun to watch.

Curious to how Manual can be left off. They finished in the final state poll in the top 20, return four starters, return their top four scorers, and have a new coach that has led Iroquois to two regional titles in the 6th region in the past 7 years with coach Jimmy Just. Manual returns a senior point guard that led the Crimson in assists in Aaron Williams, the state's top junior shooting guard in 6-4 Jacob Jenkins who led Manual in scoring and rebounding and was one of the state's top 3 point shooters, 6-2 Aaron Cosby is one of the state's top sophs and will move into the starting line-up that will make a huge impact. Manual will have one of the best back-courts in the state for the next 2 years. Then add swingman 6-4 Tony Kimbro Jr. who many feel is the state's top frosh and you've got a team that will be a tough out come regional and possibly even state tourney time. The Catspause does a great job with the team rankings, but when you hear talk amongst coaches and fans about the Louisville teams Manual is the one most see as the favorites in the 7th.

You can also include Trinity in the top-tier. The Shamrocks will be tough with four returning starters including 6-2 Matt Chambless, one of the state's top sophs in 6-4 Josh Sewell, 6-1 PG Aaron Tierney, and 6-6 280lbs PF Sam Robey. Coach Szabo will have this team in contention for a regional run without a doubt. You need to also factor in Eastern who returns two starters and top players in guard Steven Ferguson (a scorer) and 6-8 Darrin Williams who is a post player who really developed his game over the summer and is one of the state's best true post players.

The 7th is a little different this year with Jeffersontown losing its stars in Rod Basey and 6-9 Thomas Coleman and also losing projected starter Don Richardson, who transferred to Waggener. Ballard returns only one starter which is 6-0 SG David Stanley, but will insert a tough 6-0 guard in Josh Chiles into the starting line-up and have experience with forward TJ Pryor coming back. And as always, the Bruins have some additional talent stockpiled. Make no mistake about it, the Bruins and Chargers both will have a say in the regional crown this year as they do every year.

The 7th Region will always have great depth and will have a team competing for a state title just as they have done the past two years, winning one state title (Jeffersontown) and nearly doing it back to back with Ballard last year had it not been to a certain player scoring 20 second half points.

Scott County is still loaded... Richie Phares,Jordan Adams,Markus Burchfield,Gelawn(the transfer from Henry Clay), Camron Hundley, Tyler Portwood, Jordan Lee, and there are a couple of Kids that were underclassman last year that are very good ball players and will be able to hold their own on the court. Trust me on this one If Bud can't play all that means is that they might actually get beat a couple of times this year. Im sorry i know i sound like what to you guys is a typical Scott County fan but there is no way around it this team is stil Very Very Very good.

I agree, Scott County will be very good with the players you mention. Also, I think that Mackey will be in uniform this year.

I still think Scott Co. the best in the 11th even without Bud. They have alot of experience and you will see alot coming off the bench this year. If a couple of parents keep their traps shut this year and let the coaching staff do their job they will be fine. In the past few years its all been about one persons son that didn't see the ball enough or have enough touches.

They are without Walls too!! I would keep them in the top five in the 11th, but any one of at least five teams could come out on top, and IMO are not the clear cut favorite they were last year.

Mad. Cent.

B. Station

H. Clay

L. Catholic

S. County

not sure about Tates Creek and who they lost.

What High School team in KY history accomplished more?

The '99 Scott County team, ranked 5th in the nation....that is..... minus one big blunder in the championship game!

38-2 only two loses to in state rival Ballard, the last one mattered the most!
