Preseason Top 25

Featured Replies

My guess is they will be motivated this year. Yes, many struggled against Scott Co. last year, one of the best high school teams in KHSAA history.

Obviously I am a Botkin fan, and Sanford will give Lex Cath another dimension. They may be calling it the "Blue Heat" before the season is over.

Isn't the blue flame hotter than the red flame;)

The rematch should be intense.

I agree that Sanford will help the Knights. His quickness and ball handling skills fill a hole for them. He also makes it where the quality of their depth is much improved.

Blue heat - Lex Cath does have the ability to get really hot shooting.

Red heat - Scott Co's swarming defense and quickness gives the slower-footed knights problems.

It has been and will continue to be one of the great rivalry games in the state. I wonder who's student section will have to move where this season. My blood is already pumping. How long before the first game tips off?

Will definitly be the 2 teams to watch this season.

Is this June's older brother or were there enough Stepps that they needed to build another school up there?

Too long.

Interesting to see some very small schools in there with the big boys.
There could be some "David vs Goliath" games in March that David might just come out on top in.

Wasn't Michigan ranked 5th to start the year? Preseason rankings are fun but meaningless for the first few weeks.

I don't agree that Scott Co , last season , was one of the best in KHSAA history. They lucked out in the championship game . Don't quite agree with that statement. :argue:

What High School team in KY history accomplished more?

I may be a bit of a homer, but you have to go back a long ways to find a team that did what they did. Every team, no matter the level of play, has to have a few bounces to go their way to win a championship. But to say they lucked out against a team they beat by 20 early in the season is crazy. Its debatable if they are the greatest of all time , I do think not many would argue with top five all time. Still not bad.;)

Paducah Tilghman will be a legitimate top-25 team ... perhaps even top 15.

I agree Tilghman could be scary good...especially inside. Apparantly their sweet sixteen appearance last year and returning four out of five and eight out of top ten players was not factored in. Right now I say that they are the prohibitive favorites in the 1st Region.

Actually, Tilghman graduated three starters and lost four of their top eight players, but a good transfer (sat out last year) and continued development from their backcourt could make them pretty good.

What they accomplished speaks for itself. No team since the 40s I believe went undefeated against instate opponents.

Also beat Huntington WV, who were on the verge of being ranked #1 in USA Today.

Going against the schedule they had to play saids enough for me. They had a great team. To survive their district as well as the 11th region. Say what you want they were very good.

19. South Laurel

20. Hazard

21. Lincoln Co.

22. Montgomery Co.

23. Warren Central

24. PRP

25. Rose Hill

This is a very good list. I saw 15 of these 25 teams play this summer.

Scott County and Lexington Catholic were clearly the best two teams I saw this summer.

I think Scott county was one of the best teams I have seen in the last 25 years in Kentucky and Billy Hicks is one of the best coaches in Kentucky in the last 25 years. Hats off to last years Cardinals.

As for this years Cardinals, they will still be very very good but I believe the loss of a 6'4" pure stud hoss point guard will be a big loss for them and with the in state competition overall improved over last year they will be more beatable this year and I think it will be very hard for them to repeat as State Champs. Having said that, if any coach in Kentucky could do it Billy Hicks is the man that could get it done.
