Preseason Top 25

I look forward to seeing what some of these "unheralded" kids like Lee, Adams, Hundley, Portwood, Burchfield, and Phares are going to do now that it is their time to shine.

Adams and Portwood can flat fill it up, Lee and Phares are a perfect high low tandem, Burchfield is a tough gutty kid that brings it every night, Hundley might have an argument for the MVP of the State Tournament last year, and don't forget the X-factor that is Guyn.

This group has been together (with the exception of Guyn) for a long time and I think that some of their offensive abilities have been overlooked because of Matt and Bud taking the majority of the shots at times.

My personal opinion is that they are still the top team in their region and in the state, I would also not be surprised at all to see them repeat. Seeing these kids evolve as a group this year will be a real treat to watch, will they take their lumps, absolutely, are they gonna surprise some people, we'll see...

The '99 Scott County team, ranked 5th in the nation....that is..... minus one big blunder in the championship game!

38-2 only two loses to in state rival Ballard, the last one mattered the most!

The 99 team did accomplish a lot. Did you know there were 5 players in City of Palms tournament that the Scott County 99 team won that played in the NBA? I think they were actually ranked #6 in the USA Today poll.

However, I still think the 2007 team accomplished more. Undefeated in Kentucky, State Champions, beat the number one team in the nation (in every poll except USA Today, #2 in USA Today). Played maybe the toughest instate schedule in memory. The 99 team may have been more talented but no team in my memory accomplished more than the 2007 team.

They actually had some tough games at the State AAU this past summer with him in the lineup!!!

And a controversial call or two in the semifinals ... ;)

:cry: Something tells me you would not be complaining if the same thing happened and Scott Co. beat say Ashland.

Oh yes, I would ... I was there and got to watch it firsthand. It isn't as if I was alone in my thinking. Most of the 12,000+ fans in Rupp Arena that day expressed their displeasure over it, too.

'00 team peaked at the wrong time , some calls did fall in their favor...i agree (I still side with the ref that the kid undercut Hundley).....December 29 1998 Scott County 9-0 and ranked #5 in the USA Today. I would take the '99 team over '07...... 9 out of 10 times!

I think the argument here is not that the 07 Scott County team was the best ever (although they do atleast have an argument), but in this thread it is about who accomplished more. I think going undefeated in the state of Kentucky and beating the team on the verge of being the #1 team in the nation with 2 more than likely NBA players on the roster and beating a couple of really good teams in the tournament they went to in North Carolina I believe.

The 1999 team had three future Division I players, including a pair of Mr. Basketballs ... it's a tough call between the that team and last year's Cardinals. Last year's team was definitely deeper.

I meant to start post with '99 team! '00 was a lost season (but still finished in final four)!

If you get the chance take a glace at SC's schedule in '99, many huge wins with multiple wins over USA Top 25 teams. While Huntington may have some future NBA players Central Little Rock that SC beat at the City of Palms (98-99 season) had Joe Johnson....a rookie of the year in the NBA! Dont forget the '99 boys just because it was 8 years ago! Two Mr. Basketball WINNERS....!

I really dont see Bud in an SC jersey I think he will end up at Hargrave Academy and comparison between 99 and 07 is a tough one because if u think about it yes the 99 team had those dI players but had no player with Bud's skill. The 07 team will prove to have atleast 4 DI players. and IMO Matt Walls got an absolute screw job by not winning Mr Basketball. Scott county played more top 10 teams in a week than Pettigrew faced all year. And i mean come on got beat in the first game of district are you serious. And then you have Bud this year who if he got to play and there obviously wasnt a lean towards miller because he signed with Kentucky would most likely win Mr. Basketball so to be honest I take the Walls leadership and Bud Mackey talent over the 99 team.

You can also include Trinity in the top-tier. The Shamrocks will be tough with four returning starters including 6-2 Matt Chambless, one of the state's top sophs in 6-4 Josh Sewell, 6-1 PG Aaron Tierney, and 6-6 280lbs PF Sam Robey. Coach Szabo will have this team in contention for a regional run without a doubt. You need to also factor in Eastern who returns two starters and top players in guard Steven Ferguson (a scorer) and 6-8 Darrin Williams who is a post player who really developed his game over the summer and is one of the state's best true post players.

Finally someone who mentions Trinity. Interesting how Trinty gets left off of most lists. Only really losing Tanner Jacobs from last year who will be replaced by Robey (6'5") and Kupper (6'4") (neither as aggressive as Jacobs but will do ok). They hammered Manual, Desales and J'town (whom all 3 are getting raved about) and return very good players this year. Should be a fun region to watch once again.

Like I said, no one is arguing who is the better team, but who accomplished more. I think winning a state title and going undefeated against in-state competition is a huge accomplishment.

I don't know if I agree that the 2000 Scott County team was a "lost season". If I remember correctly they went 30-5 and beat a USA Today top 10 team in St Raymonds in the finals of the 5th 3rd. I also remember they had Lex Cath on the ropes in the Sweet 16 semi finals when a very questionable no call with about 90 sec to go turned the game in Lex Caths favor. The 00 team was a very special team also.
