5A Rankings (BGP) Discussion

I see what you're saying sonce Cov. Cath. did win state, but Highlands' freshman teams have gone undefeated the last 4 years and beat Cov. Cath. pretty badly every time, as I remember.

With high school football, I don't think you can use freshman football stats as a barometer for how good the varsity football team will be. So many kids have yet to mature physically, and some have actually peaked by their freshman year. Also, some programs teach the system used by the varsity team for which the freshman team may not be cut out for.

1. Cov Cath( They should be Number 1 until they lose to a Kentucky team)

2. Highlands

Rankings are for this season, what happened last year is immaterial. CovCath lost a bloody ton and will be lucky to win 5 games in the regular season...and that is coming from a CovCath guy. They aren't anywhere near the best team entering this season.

Undefeated last 3. 2003 team lost first 3, then the streak began.

I really like the way region 1 shapes out... Should be interesting to see who comes out of there between BGreen, WCentral, Owens Sr, Hoptown, Christian Co and Mad'ville...Thats 6 pretty solid teams that all have potential to knock the other out...

Using your logic where would you rank Mercer County?

Isn't Madisonville up in 6A?

Christian Co. needs to settle on a QB. I think Lovelace wants to go with the Sophomore McDuffin but the Offensive staff likes the transfer QB from Kansas. But he isn't that tall at only 5'8 or 5'9. But he has looked the best of the two and graded out higher than McDuffin did at the FC QB camp. Overall Christian Co. will be young and they've had some kids they thought would help decided not to play this year. They have a strong sophomore class coming up that Lovelace is high on.

For Hopkinsville FB/LB Joe Harris could be the difference maker. But right now Antwon Crayton has been the most pleasant suprise with his play, attitude, and leadership he's shown. Sophomore Darnell Davis has all the upside to be the next stud in the stable. He can play mulptiple postions and athletic wise he's ahead of other kids on the team. QB Marshall Stewart has progressed along so far at a rapid pace. He's a straight "A" student and that shows on the field with his checks and knowledge of the game. He has the size and arm to be a good QB. He has gotten some high praise from some QB camps in Nashville, Louisville, and Fort Campbell. WR wise this could be the best route running group I have seen at Hoptown. The Tigers should benefit from a couple of transfers TE/OT Junior from Oklahoma and aFB/LB from Clarksville. Neither will start right away but provide depth along the way. Hopkinsville has approximently 55 players not including the freshmen roster. That's a big improvement from the 35-40 player days.

Owensboro Senior will bring their guns cocked and loaded this year. With 20 seniors and a good part of them having varsity experience, they will lead the team in the right direction. With Neil Johnston and Blake Roberts leading the defense at linebackers, Josh Hayden and Wayne Duncan will hold the passing game to very little. They have Jermaine Dumas and Zac Dunehiy, and with these players they will once again be a strong defense. Look forward to the ofense of side of the ball beating teams up, they will have Austin Moss at Qb, which should give them the right leadership. They have their whole Ofensive line back intact with Dumas, Duneghiy, Rob Durham, Blake Hilliard and Ryan Smith. Basically they return the whjole offense except for Rb Nick Hall who rushed for 1700 yards a season ago, but will be quickly replaced by a committee of backs led by Johnston, Hayden, and Yorel Shemwell. They will more then make up for it. Also with returning recievers in Duncan, Zach Cannon and Josh Royal. Look for this team to turn some heads for real and meet up with B.G. in the regional final, and moving on to play the Highland Bluebirds for the 5A state. Good Luck to all teams because the men will be seperated from the boys in 3 weeks!:fire:

Didnt CCH JV beat HHS JV last year??

If they meet up with BG it will be in the State Semi finals, not the region final. I like Hopkinsville or Christian to take care of Owensboro in the second round. Owensboro has won 1 playoff game in 5 years.

Yes, in the exact same fashion as the varsity did the night before(in the regular season game). A last second td pass to the back of the end zone.

Undefeated last 3. 2003 team lost first 3, then the streak began.

Is that the year they lost to Scott in Freshman ball ?:scared:

Dixie beat Cov Cath and HHS 2yrs ago JV . Then most of them started playing Varsity from then on . You can't always look back to last years JV for a true ranking . Players move around alot in 4yrs of highschool football !

Sure was. When you think about that, you really have to tip your hat to the seniors on last years Birds team for working their tails off to become one of the better teams in the state last year, don't you? From losing to Scott as frosh to convincingly beating Dixie :scared: as seniors is a nice improvement, don't you think?

Last year's senior class wasn't one of the most athletically talented classes to go through Highlands, but through very hard work they became pretty dang good. This year's senior class is by far much more athletically gifted (which is why so many of them have started for as long as they have). I think the Birds will do very well this year. Hope they prove me right.

Sooo what's your point?

Yes, in the exact same fashion as the varsity did the night before(in the regular season game). A last second td pass to the back of the end zone.

Actually the JV game pass was to the 5 yard line and the receiver made it all the way to the 2 before he was tackled, his knees (both of them) hit at the 1 and he fell forward across the line. In Park Hills, this is called a touchdown.
