Funny you should ask. In the first game of the 95 season against HHS in the Thoroughbred Bowl Couch ran for 200+ AND threw for 200+. Now, that was an HHS team that eventually beat the tar out of Leslie later in the state semi's, but he manhandled us the first game. It was impressive. I think the final was like 56-54...

When you talk about best high school players, Alexander isn't even the best running back to play in Kentucky.

The question was football PLAYER. It's Dicky Lyons, with Michael Bush a close second. Lyons played QB, running back, safety, kicked, punted, returned punts, kicks, etc. Lyons is one of Three freshmen to letter at X when he started at sefety as a freshman. He was never off the field as a junior and senior.

The stats between Couch and Brohm are pretty close. Although, Couch does have more interceptions. After that, it's the human factor. If this was tennis or golf, I'd say that championships matter but honestly, there are (at least) 99 other kids on his team...

 

Marino is one of the best. Your theory is leaving him out of that argument because his TEAM didn't win. That's preposterous...

No, but he and Redman brought national attention to KY high school football. He also appeard in Sports Illustrated and ESPN flew a helicopter onto Highlands practice field to catch some highlights. You can't use the cover of SI as a barometer for best player. It is what they did on the field.

:eek: Frisk was great. That's actually a good argument. We played Frisk and Skirvin and for high school backs, I would have taken Skirvin, though Frisk had the most potential. Frisk could shake you and was fast. Skirvin flat ran over you as well as around you. However, both of them could play on my team.

The first game of the season against St. X in the Thoroughbred Bowl the state semi's against Bell and the state finals against Hoptown. He sat at least the entire fourth quarter of most of the other 11 games. He was hurt for one game. That's almost like he would've played in another 2 3/4 games. He would've broken a lot of records...

He played the full game against us. Actually he played a little defense as well that game. My point of view came from playing and tackling both of them. Frisk's ability to pass with both hands helped him tremendously on quick pitches. However, you guys were STACKED that year. I mean, Lorenzon was your back up and you still walked away with the state. Skiriving single handedly had Dayton on the five yard line in the fourth quarter with the game on the line against Beechwood. Having played both, my choice was Skirv. You were able to watch Justin every game, so you're appreciation is different. Either way, you're still my favorite Cake Eater.

Again... the thread is asking for THE (singular) best... Marino is like a Tarkenton..... one to be mentioned in the elite, BUT not THE best, because they just could not win the big one. My choice is Brohm. Yours I assume is Couch. Life goes on....
