With all due respect to Tim Couch his numbers were against lesser competition. I would be curious to know if he played any games against higher caliber competition (Highlands, Boyle County, etc.) and what kind of numbers he put up against them.

 

CovCath beat Leslie pretty soundly in the playoffs when Couch was the qb as well.

 

 

 

My vote went to Alexander. He was the type of back who got better later in the game. His senior year performance against CovCath was a terrific showing. No running back in NKY, IMO, compares to Alexander.

Which begs the question...Where's JLo?

Well Horning is a little before my time. I saw Alexander play. We stopped him cold. I have to go with the homer vote of Brohm. His play against Bush in the State game was epic. Couch had the benefit of 5 years worth of stats. 5 years of stats for Brohm would have been just as or more impressive. I also agree with some of the other posters that Couch did not face near the level of competition that Brohm went up against. ( X, Elder, Montgomery Bell, Cincy X, Male, etc.) Just my opinion...

Stats + success = winner. Brohm was a varsity player 3 years and had how many rings? Couch played varsity 5 years and had how many rings? I don't know if Paul H played as a freshman... how many titles did the Braves have when he played?

Well its a pretty regional voting for the most part. Brohm is getting the Louisville votes, Alexander the Northern Ky votes and Couch the Eastern Ky votes in general. I will go with Couch. Based on his high school accomplishments he was amazing. And he really gave football an amazing boost in this state.

Also, I have seen Brian Brohm play basketball and I have seen Tim Couch play basketball. Couch was a better all-around athlete. (not that it matters to most people, but if the situation was reversed I think Couch would do better). Anyways with Couch, Alexander, Horning, Brohm, Bush, etc our state has had some very talented football playerw we can be proud of!

In football, players are so reliant on teammates more so than other sports. If Brohm and Couch did not have an O-line or WR's to catch then they would not be affective. Brohm played better competition, but had a much better supporting cast that allowed him to win state titles. Couch did not have the supporting cast to win a state title in 3A back then.

That cuts both ways. Couch didn't have near the team Brohm did. The 2002 Trinity team was about as good as it gets. Also it is a bit misleading to say Couch had 5 years worth of stats. He had 3 passes as an 8th grader for 63 yards. Couch really only had 1 year on Brohm. But I will say that if Brohm would have started as a Freshman he would have broken Couch's career record for yards.

Imo Paul Horning is the obvious choice.

I also feel that if you put Tim Couch in a situation like the classic Trinity/Male battle for the State Championship, I'm not as comfortable that Couch would have competed as well with Michael Bush.

You know while I have always felt that Brohm is superior to Couch....I have never been able to specify a great reason why...you just did that for me...awesome...
