No offense to you or to Mr. Votto but there are many waiver wires filled with guys who fit the bill of great minor league hitter with a .205 MLB average. I don't THINk Votto will fall into that category but, please, lets be patient before any annointing goes on.

I would assume that if he struck out less of all of those times he made contact he would have more hits. But that's pretty obvious.

Or maybe some of those outs could be Sac flies or grounders to move a runner over. Or you can look at it the other way, maybe Dunn stays out of DPs by striking out.

More contact is going to have to result in more bombs. My question, though, deals with the TYPE of outs that Dunn gets and how people get bent out of shape. For the sake of argument, I'm saying tell me why the "type" of out is important.

The type of out is important to people b/c they remember a time when he didn't have a sacrifice fly for a year and a half. If he made more contact w/ runners on 3rd or w/ runners in scoring position he would have even better numbers. You put up a stat earlier in the year saying Dunn was doing a very good job w/ the bases loaded. But his perception will always be that he's going to K w/ a runner on 3rd in this town. What's his avg when he puts the ball in play? Did we ever get an answer on where the additional RBI's came from w/ the bases loaded?

On average, a team scores the same number of runs in a given out/bases situation when a player strikes out as whent he player gets out in any other way. So if we assume Dunn is a .267 hitter and that those Ks would be outs anyway, it would seem to have no impact if he strikes out vs grounding out/flying out.
