So if we assume Dunn is a .267 hitter and that those Ks would be outs anyway, it would seem to have no impact if he strikes out vs grounding out/flying out. But I think it's safe to assume that if Dunn never struck out (I'm aware that it's not a realistic possibility) he would hit for a lot higher avg, w/ a lot more HR's, and a lot more RBI's. I doubt that the same amount of runs are scored on average w/ a runner on 3rd and 1 out w/ a K compared to if the ball gets put in play.

The impact would be if those flyouts or groundouts advanced people on base. Besides a DP the SO is worst case scenario for hitter with men on.

At the all-star break, I remember the Seattle manager commenting that Ishurou (sp??) could hit a lot more HR's. He has the power to hit 30, but he sacrifices that to hit for a higher average and be on base more often. The manager went on to say that in BP, people are shocked on how many he hits out because he is swinging for HR's there and not in the game. He prefers to slap the ball and get base hits.

That's why I said that it wasn't a realistic possibility. When Dunn puts the ball in play he's batting over .350. The question was would you rather him get out another way. I said yes b/c he would improve all of his other numbers. If Dunn's K's were cut in half his avg would be a lot higher. Going by his current numbers he would have close to 20 more hits. If those hits came w/ runners in scoring position he quite obviously would have more RBI's.
