Biggest Rivalries

Boyle County and Danville have a traveling trophy that stays at the winners school as well.
Yeah and Male and Manual have had the Barrel since the 1930's and St.X and Trinity at least used to have a Shillelagh with gold coins on it for St. X wins and Silver for Trinity, but I don't know if that is still done or not.

It is, but it only changes hands with the September game, not in playoff matchups.

NewCath and Newport is a good rivalry, going back several decades when it first started and playing for the Fireman's Bell. It will be different this year with them playing towards the end of the season instead of the beginning and for home-field advantage in the playoffs.

the history of HHS and Cov Cath has been bluebirds dominating, Though lets see if the colonels can biuld their own years of dominating, OR will the colonels have one historic year and let highlands stay the winner of the rivalry and their 16 state titles

Going by the KHSAA record book, where does the series stand? 30 - 22?

Bullitt East and Nelson County also have a traveling trophy. BE also gets to renew an old rivalry this year since Larue County is back in our district. When these 2 schools were in the same 2A district, it was the most intense game ever year, even more so than BE and North Bullitt.

In Lexington there's a big one between LCA and Lexington Catholic. While Dunbar and Lafayette have been battling for years. Henry Clay and Lafayette also seem to be developing one too. Obviously i don't think any of these come close to some out there.

One game maketh not even a potential rivalry. Lexington Catholic hasn't ever had a steady rival in football. Many could argue that Harrison Co. recently has been a rival but that has only been a recent thing. You'd only have to look back to '02 to see that that game hasn't always been close. Bourbon Co. even was a rivalry once, but their current gutter program also has nullified that sadly. Danville once was a great rivalry but their departure from our district ended that quickly. Boyle Co. had a great four game run with the Knights but a change in class ended those great games. A late goal line stand to Henry Clay rid Catholic of any chance to have a Lexington 4A city team rivalry. I can't come up with one solid team the Knights have managed to play consistently with competitive games.

CovCath?

wow.. I can't believe nobody in eastern Ky has mentioned the growing Johnson Central - Ashland rivalry. The last two years have shown split wins, close games, and a little bit of bad blood.

CovCath?

Is this really rivalry worthy? Lex Cath vs Cov Cath? You are right, they may have the longest string of competitive head to head games for any Lex Cath opponent but I'd hardly call it a rivalry.

Someone also mentioned Scott Co. which may actually be the closest thing to a rivalry Catholic has.

When it comes to high school football in Kentucky, Trinity vs. St. X is in a different class.

But it's also hard to argue with the traditions when these matchups occur

Highlands vs. CovCath

Beechwood vs. NewCath

Male vs. Manual (H vs. M)

Danville vs. Boyle County

Ashland vs. Russell

Belfry vs. Pikeville

Bardstown VS. Bethlehem will always be a rivalry because the sheer fact that the barstown kids have a chip on their shoulder when compared to the bethlehem kids. Private vs. public...overprivelged vs. underpriveleged in this case.

Thats the game I looked forward to most every year. If its one game I wanted to win it was that one. Its possible that I may have a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of my life for never winning that game in my 4 years. It irks me to no end.:madman:

Silver Grove - Walton Verona

Back years ago : Boone Co. - Lloyd was a very good one . I do believe they stopped playing because it got alittle HEATED !

NewCath and Beechwood is definately a good rivalry, but to say without a doubt, one must have never been in attendance at a Dayton/Bellevue game...

I'm with you on that one and this years game is shaping up to one of the best games ever played between the to.:ylsuper:
