There are many great students and teachers that make St. Pat a great Catholic School. This is why it is surprising how they treated Coach Ormes. Secret meetings involving disgruntled players and unhappy parents, which by the way came from middle school players Coach Ormes has not even had yet as a player. Lex Turner is a legend in the 10th region and a great coach. He is left out completely in the equation and doesn't get a chance to provide input. What's that all about? I would expect better from a Christian school.

 

Principal Kirry does seem like a great principal and will take some heat for this and I think that is unfair. The real person who made the decision had a chance in the paper the other day to take responsibility for what happened. What did he do? He threw his principal under the bus. Then he acted like he wasn't sure what happened or who was responsible. A great man once said " Ma'am you can go to hell for lying."

 

Bringing up some public school leaders from other schools was a good point. But I think you have it backwards. We expect things like this to happen at public schools. We expect better from schools that are founded on any Christian beliefs.

 

 

I will agree it all sounded pretty bizarre in the Ledger article. I only brought up the other names to help make the point. I wish we didn't expect these kind of things from ANY school, parochial or not.

 

About all the secret meetings, unhappy players, etc. Where is this coming from because I hadn't heard any of it. Do you think it's from a good source or is it just rumors? Just curious.

I would think so.... But also keep in mind that Coach Hinson has done a good job with that program... they won 14 of 15 games his first season adn had double figure wins this season

so are you telling me st.pat was not good with margaret klee, joanna bess and so on because margaret played a season with him and joanna had 2 seasons.

I'm sure someone out there knows the real truth but we may never know that because those (or THE PERSON) who made the decision will not own up to the fact. And I have seen other programs where the JV coach undermined the head coach and went behind their back - very unprofessional. I don't know if it happened in this case just stating I have seen it too often by a JV coach who wants the head coaches job. It's all water under the bridge now and we may never know the real truth behind it but the fact is Jerry Ormes elevated the program to respect and was very well resepcted by all the opponent coaches. And to leave the AD out of the loop throws a BIG SLAP in the face of Lex Turner. Did they assume that Lex would speak up for Jerry so they didn't inform him? In an essence - it was all handled VERY unprofessionally and I have no respect for the coward(s) who hid behind the cloak (hint hint).

True. But I would say many who are established at a program and have done nothing to deserve this don't get shown the door in this manner. Is it true that the girls on the team told administration they would not play for him next year?

That is some of the rumors flying around town. Ron Ruele was a retired teacher from I believe Ripley, OH who lived in Mason Co and taught and coached three years. Ron's son Scott played basketball and baseball at Mason and is now the boys basketball coach at Wilmington, OH college.

You can not say Jerry ormes made st.pat girls basketball. because i know for a fact they were good before he came and good while he was there. He was a good coach and will be missed .

No coach should be bigger than a program but those numbers don't lie about being good before Ormes.

They had some good teams before Coach Ormes but the consistency of the program as it was with Coach Ormes was missing.

 

I am very familiar with the team that defeated them in the regional tournament in 1994-95 and they were a nice team. But the consistency of being a competitive team year in and year out was missing.
