I don't know about a questionaire, but I find it hard to believe that it would dictate an outcome. I do think it would give the administration a reason to take a closer look at the program.

After talking to some friends and doing some research... I found some more information..

Here it is:

the first year st pat started a girls team

84-85, coach marla kelsch 5-9,

85-86, coach john chamberlain 11-16 and reg tourn,

86-87 coach john chamberlain 13-10 reg. tourn for your info they beat a mason co team in first round of dist and mason co went on to play sat morning at girls st tour. (a very good team),

87-88, coach lex turner12-12 reg tourn,

88-89 coach danny mckay 12-10

I do not know why Mr Orme was let go in the manner that he was, but I for one do not feel like we know all of the story. I find it hard to believe that the AD did not know what was going on, and I wonder if he was mis-quoted in the LI story. He may not have known that Orme was being informed of the decision, but surely he knew what was going on.

 

In the defense of Mrs. Douglas...I happen to know that she is a wonderful coach, and I know this because I have followed her teams for several years.

She expects the best from her players and she gets it because her players respect her. I for one think she would be a wonderful replacement.

 

 

Saint patrick does not care about winning titles....I'm sure this had nothing to do with that. It had nothing to do with Mr. Ormes record as a coach. It is my understanding that many parents had some issues and complained. Mr. Ormes was not let-go because they complained, but it was probably those complaints that gave the administration a reason to take a closer look at the girls program. I feel sure a decision was made based on what was observed.

 

As far as parents threatening to pull their kids out of St. Patrick if Ormes stayed, I heard it differently. I heard that the girls were threatening to not play if he stayed. That is just what I have heard and I don't know if either is true.

 

As far as Mr Kirry, the principal...it is my understanding that he has coached basketball and and he does have knowledge of the game.

 

I personally have dealt with St. Patrick school and I know from experience that the administration is not going to dismiss someone just because some parents complain. Anyway, parents pay for everyting their kids do so they should have some say....parents pay tuition and have to help earn the money that pays for all sports, they should be able to express their opinion if they have an issue.

 

If you do not know the full story, you shouldn't be posting an opinion. I for one think Mr. Orme should be complimented for the job he has done at Saint Patrick, and it should be left at that. Move on.

 

Yes, I agree that it was not handled they way it should have been (if the LI story is accurate) but that should be the only controversy here.

Excellent post, went through the exact same thing when Coach Starns wasn't given the Royals job,people just went on and on and on. Things turned out well and will continue to do so. Same for the Saints, you've got to move forward. Love that the Bauer connection from Bracken is helping in the transformation of the Saints for the future. They don't get any better than Elaine and Chris,who by himself(just about) is helping with the youth of the program.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but it seems that by some of the opinions expressed on here that this was already decided before the season was really over.

 

What were the arguments between the jv coach and Coach Ormes? How did that play into this? Who put out the survey to the players? Did this happen in every sport or just girl's basketball?

 

So just because a group of players were playing really well for a middle school or jv coach you kick out a man that has dedicated a lot of time to the program to keep the players and parents happy? The varsity level is not the same as the jv level.

 

Again, I think we are seeing firsthand what is going wrong with our athletic programs today. As administrators, and educators, first and coaches second we talk a good game about being role models and the need for a good education, but will quickly sacrafice it for a chance at more wins. Loyalty and dedication seem to be rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

I will agree it all sounded pretty bizarre in the Ledger article. I only brought up the other names to help make the point. I wish we didn't expect these kind of things from ANY school, parochial or not.

 

About all the secret meetings, unhappy players, etc. Where is this coming from because I hadn't heard any of it. Do you think it's from a good source or is it just rumors? Just curious.

 

And back to an earlier post, could somebody remind me who Ron Reule was? His name is ringing a bell, but I'm drawing a blank... How old was he? Did he have a student at the school? Thanks.

 

Reule was Principal at Bracken County High School in the early 80's. He taught and coached at St. Pat I believe, and he worked with the St. Augustine School System until his full retirement in 2003. Great man, Excellent Teacher, and One heck of a Coach. He and his wife Millie moved to Wilmington during the summer of 03'.

I think Summoroyal below with his records updates validates that for a fact you are wrong about the Lady Saints program being good before Coach Ormes came along. They were 75-122 before Ormes era began and 146-129 during Jerry's tenure. Those numbers are not even close. No coach should be bigger than a program but those numbers don't lie about being good before Ormes.[/Q

 

there was also no coaching consistency before jerry ormes if they had that before they could have been just as successful but they didnt. he was a good coach and brought the best out of his team.

I echo what you say about no consistency with a head coach prior to Ormes, which is why I believe and stated in a earlier post that he ought to have been able to have a chance to go out on his terms, giving 10 years to a program that no other coach could have done. You have got to love loyalty....and where it gets you these days.

Don't even get me started URIT on that subject.

Every 10th Region School especially those within driving range of St. Pat should be concerned about a possible new and improving St. Patrick.

 

With the mindset of today's sports, don't like what the coach is doing, transfer. Today's athletes/parents like to hold the coaching staff hostage.

 

I LOVE being out of coaching at the HS level and not having to put up with the crap.

Loyalty will get you no where these days.

I totally agree with you Pressrow.. Loyalty doesnt hardly mean anything in todays coacing carousel. People are at programs helping for 10+ years or so and then the school will go outside the school to hire a coach.. I believe loyalty should mean a lot more.. How does everyone else feel?
