Needing a new coach at St. Patrick

Featured Replies

Who in the world has ever heard of the kids evaluating the futur of a coach. What it all boils down to is a song I heard on the radio today, by Jerry Reed. it was " she got the gold mine and he got the shaft. I cant hardly sleep knowing that this is going on is sports today. 14 wins a year and get the boot. Thrown out like a unwanted puppy.

Hmmmm.

What is all boils down to in my opinion is that Coach Ormes is a very good person and role model for the kids... He was a classy coach who I think deserved to be treated better.. I dont think this was handled the right way. As far as kids from other schools going to St. Pat that is a whole other topic and forum..

I hope this works out for St. Pat, but I hate losing a coach like Coach Ormes in the 10th Region

Would anyone know where Coach Ormes may be going to?

Wow. Sadly, this has gone from being about saying goodbye to Jerry Ormes to totally trashing Elaine Douglas, Father William Hinds, Principal Kirry and St. Patrick's school. First, I have always liked Jerry Ormes and I think he's done alot of good during his time at St. Patrick. I can think of some reasons why the school might want a change in coaching, but out of respect and because it's over and done, I won't mention them.

As to Elaine Douglas, does anyone here know for a fact that she's even interested in this job? I don't know, but I can tell you that if she is the school would be 7 kinds of crazy NOT to hire her. I've known her for a long time; my daughter currently plays for her and I can tell you firsthand that she has forgotten more about basketball than most of her critics will have ever known.

She and her husband have devoted an incredible amount of time and effort to the girls basketball program at St. Patrick. She inspires her players to give their best effort, constantly teaches them, keeps track of their academic performance and generally cares about them as individuals. In my opinion any school would be lucky to have a coach like her. Why drag her into all the mudslinging? What coaching experience does she have? A couple of recent examples:

Also, I think the JV team she and Mrs. Adams coached had a pretty good season this year.

And Mr. Kirry is gutless, classless and knows nothing about athletics? What do you know about him? I haven't seen him to be any of these things in the short time he's been here. He is an administrator, and like all people in his position has to make difficult decisions that don't always please 100% of all people. Try this link to get an idea about him:

Regarding Father Hinds, what do you know about his contributions to St. Patrick's school, his ministry, or works of mercy or charity? I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but all the name calling sounds a little anti-Catholic. Would you want people speaking about your clergyman this way? In his dealings with St. Augustine and St. Michael I have always heard that he is very upfront about not wanting to take current students away. It is about the students who want to attend Catholic high school but cannot do so in their own parish. He's not perfect, but who is? Tim Moore? Robin Kelsch? Any of us here?

Anyway, IMO coaches are probably like dead fish and houseguests - It's best not to keep them around too long... Otherwise, it starts being more about them, less so about the team.

And just a thought: it's likely that a great many coaches(on every level) who leave their position probably do so under the same circumstances. It's just that most of them don't choose to air the dirty laundry in such a public fashion.

Oh, and before I forget... Thanks for your years of service Mr. Ormes, and good luck in all of your future endeavors.

Here are some St Pat stats:

St Pat has a career total wins of 274 with 146 wins under Coach Ormes 53% The next winningest coach is Ruele with 40 wins. St Pat has had 9 winning seasons with 6 under Ormes. St. Pat has has 10 Regional Appearances with 4 under Ormes. I believe it is safe to say the Lady Saints program did take a rise under Ormes. For the person or persons making the decision probably did not care about these stats, could not understand them or just flat did not give a rat's bleep!!!!!:irked: :irked: :irked:

I will be the first to tell you that Coach Adams and Coach Douglas success at the Junior High Level is second to none. The St. Patrick teams that were lead by Adams and Douglas were well coached and prepared.

Thanks to Shamrock Fan for all the links and information provided... I hope everyone takes the time to learn about these people.

Would like to know where you got the information about "80% of this decision was from an evaluation of his players." I find that very difficult to believe and when is a basketball coaches job on the line because you have some players who were not happy with the outcome. Characteristically there will likely always be some players not happy, such as - not enough playing time, not patted on the back ALL the time, others getting more playing time ,etc, etc, etc. I know Jerry very well too and his coaching is steller. Sure, as coaches, we don't always make the right decisions, but that's expected. Regardless of what you say, I have to believe the "higher-ups" didn't do the research and did their normal "knee-jerk" reaction and tried to appease the minority who were complaining the loudest. Jerry is still one of the best coaches in the 10th region and that is so apparent when you look at where St. Pat's was BEFORE he came and how far they progressed. And as you can see from reading these posts, most people agree with that assessment.

Buddy! I am no BGPer...i simply asked a friend to state my opinion...Jerry ormes is the best girls coach at st pat...and he was great! I totally agree...and the way he was sent was NOT RIGHT!!! but I was just clearing up the very very FALSE accusations of St. patrick recruiting...I have taken a coaches evaluation test and its all friendly and it usually goes fine...this year, though, there were some troubles btwn the jv and v coaches....its not a source to fire a coach...it is just a little survey to see your coaches interraction with players and if your coach shows religious action while coaching.....jerry was the best with that....VERY VERY CLASSY GUY. This survey is just a source but not a criticism towards the coach, but the admin. could have seen a trend and that is all i'm saying..but thank you for your opinion and input...much appreciated!!!

All that I have bolded shows that there are few people that show true dedication to such a small school.

There are many great students and teachers that make St. Pat a great Catholic School. This is why it is surprising how they treated Coach Ormes. Secret meetings involving disgruntled players and unhappy parents, which by the way came from middle school players Coach Ormes has not even had yet as a player. Lex Turner is a legend in the 10th region and a great coach. He is left out completely in the equation and doesn't get a chance to provide input. What's that all about? I would expect better from a Christian school.

Principal Kirry does seem like a great principal and will take some heat for this and I think that is unfair. The real person who made the decision had a chance in the paper the other day to take responsibility for what happened. What did he do? He threw his principal under the bus. Then he acted like he wasn't sure what happened or who was responsible. A great man once said " Ma'am you can go to hell for lying."

Bringing up some public school leaders from other schools was a good point. But I think you have it backwards. We expect things like this to happen at public schools. We expect better from schools that are founded on any Christian beliefs.

What gets me is where was Lex Turner when this was going on?
