I believe if you check each class rosters you'll find your answer. Not to mention his visits to Augusta and trips across the river getting players, not students to come there. The fact that there are kids playing sports and are not even living in Kentucky, should be a KHSAA violation.

 

They live in aberdeen Ohio and have been going to St.Pat all their lives because their parents work in Maysville. Just because they decide to play sports should be a KHSAA violation?

We seem to be getting away from discussing the main issue here. Coach Ormes was a Class Coach that deserves respect and St. Pat made a big mistake in their decision. The change of direction St. Pat must want to follow is down, because that is the only way to head with this move.

If you want to discuss if St. Pat is recruiting or not take it to the private/public forum.

As a graduate at St Pat, I had friends from Ripley, Aberdeen, Augusta, etc that I went to school with. That was great. I have no problem with parents sending their kids to St. Pat. Their is no violation in that. The problem I have is PARENTS, threatening to remove thier kids from the school, if a coaching change is not made. What is next, a teacher gives a student a C, is their parents going to remove thier child unless the teacher is fired? The administration at St. Pat has no backbone. They just opened a whole can of worms, that I do not believe they are ready for.

 

As a coach, I do not do it for the parents, I do it because I enjoy it. The kids and parents have 2 choices, be part of the team, accept their role and play, or turn your uniform in and go home.

 

AS for the JV team having a great year, that was at THE JV LEVEL. MY JV went 19-1, but would have gotten drilled by most Varsity Teams. For those who do not coach, and just sit in the stands, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JV AND VARSITY!!

What is all boils down to in my opinion is that Coach Ormes is a very good person and role model for the kids... He was a classy coach who I think deserved to be treated better.. I dont think this was handled the right way. As far as kids from other schools going to St. Pat that is a whole other topic and forum..

In theory you are right with what I bolded. In reality, they have a 3rd option. Complained to the super/board member/whomever is in a position of power in their school till the coach is removed.

I agree with you, but also understand the mentality of society today.

 

Our school faced this issue when the KEES money first became avaliable. Our school's grading policy was 95-100 was an A and so on and so on. An A is worth money now and the school districts around us had either a 93 and up was an A or the 10 point grading scale. Parents were upset that their children was losing out on scholarship money because we had a harder grading scale than the surrounding schools.

 

Our grading scale was changed.

Let me also add that sometimes the administrator at the HS might not have a choice. It comes down to them that they need to fire the coach. So, the principal might be between the rock and the hard place. Is standing up for the coach worth your job?

I understand your thinking and it may have been the priest (in charge) told the principal not to rehire Coach Ormes and the principal didn't have a choice, BUT that certainly does NOT make it right. And then NOT to even inform the AD at all? So that indicates that the Athletic Director has NO input on coaches - another bad choice. All in all, a good man was "let go" because a horses pa-tutt (to put it nicely) decided he was the "almighty" and could do whatever he please, regardless of any concerns by those truly affected (such as the coach and players). I have absolutley NO respect for people like that. Basically they are cowards and couldn't hold a flame to the character of people like Jerry Ormes. Jerry, you can stand tall and know that the majority of people know what a quality person you are and also realized you were railroaded by someone who knows NOTHING about coaching.

You cant tell me that it was a recruiting process for athletics, it was strictly a visit to see if kids from a catholic school wanted to go to a catholic high school. Just so you know, St. Pats is one of the only Catholic schools around (Bishop Brossart) the other. But St. pats is a great school where CLASS comes first. No one on BGP can say that they have run into many problems with our athletic program. We have quite a few Ohio residents from manchester to G'town that are probably 90% Catholic. You can not say Jerry ormes made st.pat girls basketball. because i know for a fact they were good before he came and good while he was there. He was a good coach and will be missed .

I find it very hard to believe that the players evaluated the coach without the A.D. having knowledge of it???

 

Do you have yearly records or stats showing how good St. Pat was before Coach Ormes???
