I was looking at the 1A class and was basically ranking them on how they did last year and the strength of the program. I know Bethlehem will have a rough road to make some noise in the playoffs, but I would still consider them in the top 10 preseason, do to how they did last year.

What are your thoughts on the 1A class for 2007?

I'm interested in what people think about the new 1A.

Theres not going to be near as much depth in 1a with the departure of Danville, Bardstown, NCC, Cov H.Cross, Somerset, among others...I will say that Beechwood and Mayfield will be the cream of the crop and then everyone else will be a notch or 2 below them....I'm hearing Frankfort will be solid and Pikeville and Lou Holy Cross will be good...I don't know alot about Raceland and LCA, but, they've been good the last couple of years and have pretty good programs...Crittenden Co returns alot from last year, so I expect them to be somewhere in the mix...To me, it's alot like 6a with StX and Trinity being the premier programs year in and year out and then everyone else...That's kind of the way I see Beechwood and Mayfield

2A is gonna be a great class, I wish my Cards were in it but given the state of the talent pool that has slowly been declining I know that 1A is where they would have to be to be a contender in a few years though for the next 3 or 4 years they will field some pretty strong teams. This year is still a question mark but if they iron out a few things they will be real good if not they will be pretty good but not sure if pretty good is good enough to get any hardware.

I can see what your saying, but there are several really good 1A programs around the state. The problem is that most people don't get to see them. I agree that Beechwood is the team to beat this year in 1A, in years past there have been some really good teams in North-Eastern Kentucky that got beat in the first two rounds of the playoffs by a team that was playing in the championship game (Beechwood and NCC). So many people do not realize how good of a program that Raceland and LCA have. For many years, going back to the 70's, Raceland, Paintsville, Hazard, Pikeville, and recently LCA have beat 2A, 3A, and 4A teams that went deep in their perspective playoffs, and have had great seasons. But, again not many people have got to see these teams because they lost in the first two rounds of the playoffs to, in many cases the eventual state champion, or at least the runner up. I am not whining here, I am stating a fact, Raceland got beat by some really good teams in the playoffs.

Again, I can see why your saying that the 1A class is weaker, but I respectfully disagree. Yes, Covington Holy Cross and NCC are gone, but this is just the Northern-Kentucky district, which will mean the competition in that district has declined. You will still have several really good programs/teams this year, in: LCA, Pikeville, Hazard, Mayfield, Beechwood, Louisville Holy Cross, Frankfort, Crittenden Co, Bethlehem, and my beloved Raceland.

The Rocks are in a league of their own..... Until someone can detrone them, they are no. 1. Its not up for debate, discussion or "what ifs"..... The track record speaks for itself. It doesnt matter if the Rocks have '0" returning starters. They have more returning starters than that.... They are the only team to beat for the 2007 title. Any discussion of St. X being a close second can only be decided on the field in November. Anything else at this time is a bunch of hot air..... And I have "heard" a lot of it the last two years........ St. X fans, save your "talkin" for the field....

You only mention Holy Cross and NCC as departed teams, when in fact, Somerset, Bardstown, Danville, Metcalfe Co are all teams who, most likely are stronger than any of the programs you mentioned...I didn't say 1a was weak, I said, the depth is not near as good, and it won't be.. With these teams in the mix, there would be 5 or 6 teams who'll be rated in the Top 10, who, most likely wouldn't be if those teams were still there...thats not a knock on anyone, just a fact....

I agree with you that some of the top 10 teams would not be there if the above mentioned teams were still in 1A. I was only using Northern Kentucky as an example. I guess most of this is a mute point, since only one team will be coming from each district.

I still think there will be some good games in the 1A playoffs.:thumb:

I dont think fans are really permitted to "talk" on the field. I guess they could have their conversations in the stands or the parking lot, but not on the field.

IYHO this my be true, but IMHO it is definitely open to debate and discussion. That discussion and debate is the purpose of this thread. What is past is past, and we are looking at a new season and new teams. With Weitlauf, Whiting, the Dutton twins, Robey, Phillips, and Kirksay returning and leading the way for the Rocks, I'm sure they will be a very formidable team in 2007.

Nonetheless, I also see a St. X. team, which is composed of three straight undefeated teams at the freshman level in the state of Kentucky (the only loss was by last season's freshman team to Cincinnati Moeller), so this talk does have some creedence. The Tigers will be led by Finch, Zoeller, Simmons, Smith, Gahm, Carpenter and Heuser, and this will be an angry and hungry bunch.

I firmly believe that this year's 6A race will be a tight two-horse race to the wire. I find it very disconcerting that as a supposed Tiger fan, you are unable to see the rays of sunshine shinning through.

Someone explain to me why Cov HC is being mentioned w/all the power houses in 1A? Last yr was the best yr they have ever had, so what have they done to be mentioned w/the likes of Beechwood, NCC, Raceland, Pikeville, Danville, Mayfield, etc.

Moutainmojo68--what's up w/Paintsville?

NYRangers, are you talking about Dayton, KY? If so, what do you mean by watch out for them? New coach, lost the best athlete in the school to graduation, I feel they will be rebuilding this coming yr but have a shot to finish 2nd in the district.

3A should have Russell and Belfry at the top...don't know much after that though...

Looks good to me, if Crittenden can have someone step up at QB they should hang with Mayfield for 3 quarters, CC returns a ton and will have some studs in the backfield

I believe that is Louisville Holy Cross actually.
